Houston Texans vs. Miami Dolphins Free Pick - 8/17/13

The Miami Dolphins visit the Houston Texans in Saturday preseason action.
The Dolphins rebounded from a naritem loss to Dallas in the HOF game to dominate Jacksonville 27-3. Ryan Tannehill went 5-9 for 75 yards with a touchdown as the Fish took a 14-0 lead and were never challenged. Matt Moore and Pat Devlin combined to go 10-17 for 103 yards and an interception and the rushing attack left a lot to be desired with only 106 yards on 36 carries and the offensive line unable to carve out any running room against the Jaguars front seven. The defense deserved much of the credit by recovering a pair of fumbles and recording two interceptions. Jacksonville was sloppy as well with seven penalties and four turnovers being far too much to over come.
Houston knocked off Minnesota on the road by a 27-13 count to open the preseason with a win. Although the final score said this was a solid all around victory, the Texans trailed 13-10 at the half before second and third teamers outscored the Vikings 17-0 over the final 30 minutes. TJ Yates (13/21-151) and Case Keenum (13/18-125) had little problem against the Vikes secondary, while the O-Line opened some holes for the ground game, which totaled 133 yards on 29 carries. Cierre Wood paced the rushing attack with 59 yards on ten carries, including a 20 yard scamper. The Texans won the turnover battle 2-0 and controlled the football with nearly a 13 minute advantage in time of possession. In defense of the Vikings, many of their top players saw little if any action, which makes it difficult to analyze this one.
As I always say, the outcome of preseason games can change in a series based on who is playing and that applies here. I have the feeling that Miami has played against two teams that had their starters in games longer, although that could be debated. Having said that, I’ll try the points…
