NFL News: Player News and Updates for 8/13/13

We’ve got a couple days to wait before the NFL preseason kicks back into gear, so that makes it a great time to stop and take a look around the league at some of the newsworthy players out there. We’ve got plenty of activity this morning, so let’s see who’s making headlines. Here’s the latest.
Clark Signs With Baltimore: Late Sunday, the Ravens announced the latest addition to their roster, and Colts fans will immediately recognize the name. 34-year-old veteran Dallas Clark inked a deal Baltimore, who sorely needed some hope at tight end after the loss of potential breakout Dennis Pitta.
Clark offers 10 years of productive NFL experience, as he’s tallied 474 grabs, 5,322 yards and 50 scores in his tenure. He’s not quite the dominant force he once was, but is coming off a decent season in Tampa Bay and should help quite a bit with the reigning champs.
Dwayne Allen, TE, Indianapolis Colts: Now that we’ve mentioned the Colts, let’s head over to Indianapolis and check in on Allen, who is currently shelved with a foot injury. He’s expected to be out for at least a few weeks, which potentially puts him in danger of missing Week 1–although Colts coach Chuck Pagano believes he’ll be ready to go by then.
Allen posted some nice rookie numbers last year, hauling in 45 grabs for 521 yards. He and fellow TE Coby Fleener will provide a pair of reliable safety valves for second-year QB Andrew Luck.
Rams’ Receiving Upgrades: Folks in St. Louis are deservedly excited about a brand new pair of weapons in QB Sam Bradford’s arsenal this season. The first is ex-Titan Jared Cook. He’s coming off a 44-catch year in Tennessee, but is expected to make an immediate impact in the Rams’ offensive plans and should improve on that total.
Then there’s rookie sensation Tavon Austin, who has wowed the team with his speed and cutting ability during camp. It’s all part of a steadily-improving St. Louis franchise that has been heading in the right direction with Jeff Fisher at the helm. They’re in one of the tougher divisions in football, but expect the team to make some noise this season.
Trent Richardson, RB, Cleveland Bitemns: Are we going to see Richardson in his first preseason action of 2013 on Thursday against the Lions? The answer to that is a resounding…maybe. Although Richardson says he’s completely healthy and wishes to play in the game, he’s also considering his ultimate goal of being ready for Week 1 as well–which is probably a smart move.
Richardson has been battling a shin issue during the off-season. If he does play Thursday, he won’t be out there for long. It’ll be a steady and slow process of working the Bitemns’ star RB back into the fold.
