A Quick look of what to watch for in the NFL Match ups for preseason week two on August 16, 2013.

Minnesota Vikings at Buffalo Bills 7:00 PM EST:

Kevin Kolb gets the start for the Bills in this one as first year Head Coach Doug Marrone still tries to sort things out. E.J. Manuel was impressive in his first outing going 16 for 21 with a touchdown. C.J. Spiller is supposed to carry the load this season and he looked explosive in week one averaging nine yards per carry but the jury is out whether he can be an every down back. I will be looking at the young Buffalo receivers here mainly Robert Woods and Da’Rick Rogers who both have the ability to be impact players this season. Buffalo has invested a lot in their defense recently and with a new coaching regime there should be some serious re-evaluation there. Mario Williams will be under a microscope but the Bills’ defense allowed just 288 Yards in Week 1 of the preseason.

The Minnesota Vikings game plan this season is going to be to feed Adrian Peterson and after that they will feed Peterson again. QB Christian Ponder didn’t play much in week one so expect to see more here and less Matt Cassel. The running game is all set in Minnesota but the receivers aren’t as the Vikes need to replace Percy Harvin a year after losing Sidney Rice. Cordarrelle Patterson looked decent in week 1 but he is going to need to show he can do it all the time while Jerome Simpson will be counted on. Defensively the Vikings were shredded for 439 yards last week so llok for the defense to be more focused here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New England Patriots: 8:00 PM EST (FOX)

The question mark for the New England Patriots here is will Tom Brady play or not. My guess is he takes a few snaps but doesn’t play as much as they would like him to but it is more about Brady working with the young receivers than Brady needing the work. We’ll see plenty of Ryan Mallett and Tim Tebow in this one but neither looked good in week 1. Stevan Ridley gained 92 yards last week with the bulk coming on one carry in which he was run down from behind and LeGarrette Blount is looking like the next to revive their career in New England as he ran for 111 yards. Michael Jenkins was cut this week and that mean the Pats are going young at WR. The Patriots defense was absolutely toasted through the air last week allowing 321 yards passing, something they will address here.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were clobbered by the Ravens in week 1 of the preseason and they look to bounce back. Those who thought Mike Glennon  might challenge Josh Freeman for the starting QB job got a dose of reality as Glennon struggled; we will see what he does with his opportunity tonight. Doug Martin is the focus of the running game and he should see a little more action here but Peyton Hillis was injured in week one, not good news for him in a citemded backfield. Kevin Ogletree had five grabs last week but with Mike Williams and Vincent Jackson locked in as the starters Tiquan Underwood is the guy who really needs to step up. The Bucs defense wasn’t all that bad last week 332 yards but they weren’t help out by the offenses three turnovers, something Greg Schiano has surely addressed.

Oakland Raiders at New Orleans Saints: 8:00 PM EST

The New Orleans Saints look a lot more like the team we knew two years back and before as they have returned to normalcy after the turmoil last season. Drew Brees looked game ready in week one and he shouldn’t be anything less for this one, at least for what we see of him. Mark Ingram is the starting back and should play more than last week as will Darren Sproles. Young receivers Mick Toon and Preston Parker looked good as well in week 1  and along with Kenny Stills the Saints have some guys who are going to contribute. Defensively Jon Vilma is out until week one but the Saints defense allowed just 215 yards against the Chiefs and Kenny Vaccaro is simply a player.

I know the Oakland Raider fans hate the truth when the news is bad but it looks miserable again for the Silver and Black. The issue is at QB where Matt Flynn couldn’t beat out a rookie last year despite a massive contract, Terrelle Pryor isn’t an NFL caliber QB, and Matt McGloin and Tyler Wilson at least have potential, something the other two don’t. Darren McFadden is the franchise so they are using him sparingly in the games that don’t count but Rashad Jennings is looking like a capable backup. Denarius Moore and Juron Criner look decent as do several of the other Raiders receivers but with no one capable of getting them the ball it should all go to waste. The Raiders defense allowed just 291 yards last week but most of it was in the air; something the Saints offense will test once again.

San Francisco 49ers at Kansas City Chiefs 8:00 PM (CBS)

The Kansas City Chiefs look like they have things going in the right direction but of course when you pick number one overall in the NFL Draft it is tough to go much further in the wrong direction. The Chiefs love what they see in Alex Smith and they are raving about him just about non-stop, now it is time for him to live up to it. The big question for the Chiefs is the status of Jamaal Charles who was injured but the Chiefs are downplaying it. Shaun Draughn is a tough runner who should see action either way this season. Receiver continues to be an issue in Kansas City with Bowe out and no one else stepping up. The Chiefs defense was roasted for 427 yards last week, not numbers that are going to win a lot of games.

The San Francisco 49res are so deep at most spots their second team could give half of the NFL a good run for their money on any Sunday. Colin Kaepernick completed all of his passes last week and he should thitem a few more here. Frank Gore isn’t really a preseason guy with his knee issues but look for him to be more than ready for week one but Kendall Hunter has been activated. It was nice to see Austin Collie on the field last week but A.J. Jenkins might not even make the roaster. The 49ers defense allowed 220 yards last week and NoVorro Bowman has been talking about just how forward the defense is looking to taking some hits out on Alex Smith.
