NFL Updates: Colts-Giants, Preseason Week 3 Schedules and More
August 19, 2013
It was a busy weekend of preseason action in the NFL, and we’ve still got one more matchup tonight before the second round of warm-up games has concluded. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy names across the league who are making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.
Colts-Giants Notes: The weekend games closed out with the New York Giants hosting the Indianapolis Colts last night. Both teams had some positives and negatives to take away from the game.
The Giants’ Eli Manning finished just 8-of-17 and lost Victor Cruz to a bruised heel, but the team can take solace in the steady play of David Wilson and Andre Brown. Justin Tuck tweaked his hamstring, but as yet little is known about the severity.
For the Colts, Andrew Luck had a great day, going 9-of-13 with a pair of scores (helped out immensely by the electric T.Y. Hilton). RB Vick Ballard couldn’t get much going, though, and TE Coby Fleener suffered a mild knee sprain in the game. For the record, the Colts got the victory, 20-12.
The real test for both teams will be Week 3 of the preseason, when they’ll be expected to have the kinks ironed out of their game plans. We’ll keep you posted on the injuries.
What to Watch Tonight: The second week of preseason concludes tonight, as the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to DC to take on the Washington Redskins. You can find the game on ESPN at 8:00 PM ET. Not that it matters, but the Steelers are 0-1 thus far and the Redskins 1-0.
The action is on offense for the Steelers, as they continue to adjust to life without Mike Wallace. New arrival Le’Veon Bell (assuming he’s able to play) is also expected to show his stuff in an audition for the starting job in Pittsburgh.
Meanwhile, the Redskins are playing the preseason game of “keep everyone healthy until RG3 comes back.” Expect a heavy dose of backup RBs Roy Helu and Evan Royster.
Week 3 Preseason Schedule: Now that Week 2 is almost in the rearview mirror, we can start looking ahead to the impending “dress rehearsal” games of Week 3. Here’s a quick glance at the schedule, and where you can find the games if they’re nationally televised.
