Green Bay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks Free Pick NFL Preseason 8/23/13

The Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks face off on Friday at Lambeau Field for a week 3 NFL Preseason game between two playoff teams from a year ago.
The Green Bay Packers have to believe they just need their defense to improve some to get back to the Super Bowl as their offense remains one of the better units in the NFL. It’s easy to find the reason for success for the Pack as Aaron Rodgers is easily part of the discussion for the best QB in football and his 10 of 12 passing performance last week against the Rams didn’t do anything to help his critics. Rodgers should be helped this year by an improved running game with DuJuan Harris seen as the starter but rookies Eddie Lacy and James Franklin pushing for carries along with former playoff hero James Starks. Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson have yet to impact the preseason on the field but Jermichael Finley held on for four catches last week and if he can avoid the drops, look out. The Packers’ defense has four sacks through the first two games but none of them coming from Clay Mathews but Nick Perry and A.J. Hawk appear to be ready for the season to start but secondary with Sam Shields starting and Charles Woodson gone will certainly be tested often.
Of course it was Russell Wilson’s miracle “completion” against the Packers which ended up giving Seattle the win which was eventually the difference maker as far as them making the playoffs, this year the expectations are higher. The Seahawks have been dominating in their first two games without a lot of their stars like Marshawn Lynch, Percy Harvin, and Sidney Rice but rookies Christine Michael, Spencer Ware, and receiver Jermaine Kearse have looked sharp. Last year against the Packers it was a first half sack fest of Rodgers and the defense looks to be pretty tough again this season. Kam Chancellor is in mid-season form with 14 tackles, Benson Mayowa has 2.5 sacks, and as a team Seattle has eight sacks.
The Packers laid down in week one but of all of the preseason gams that could be somewhat important, the first half of this game Green Bay has a chance to make a statement if they can move the ball on the Seahawks defense and their defense can shut down the Seattle attack. I think Green Bay can pick up some yards and they can stop Wilson in the air and while many aren’t bound to agree, for a preseason game my pick is the Packers.
