Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Philadelphia Eagles Free Pick - 8/24/13

The Philadelphia Eagles take their show on the road to meet the Jacksonville Jaguars Saturday.
As a Philadelphia fan, some times I don’t know what to believe or disregard as I’m constantly bombarded with the sports media. After a very sharp outing in a 14-9 victory over Carolina, Chip Kelly named Michael Vick the starting quarterback who will play the entire first half and possibly some of the third against Jacksonville. Vick won the starting job over Nick Foles with a 9-10/105 yard effort, while Foles (6-8/53) dropped a few snaps in the shotgun and threw an interception in the end zone. Overall, the offense did well with nearly 400 total yards with LeSean McCoy ripping off a 21 yard TD run. The defense that was run over and passed through by Tom Brady and the Patriots showed improvement with the Panthers totaling just 278 yards and mustering three field goals.
The preseason can be more guessing than analyzing and I’m generally a guy who looks at the scores with a little indifference. However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t surprised when the Jets thumped the Jaguars 37-10. The disclaimer is Sanchez and many of the starters played in to the third quarter for New York, while Blaine Gabbert looks like the front runner in Jacksonville, going 10-13 for 165 yards and a touchdown before a sprained thumb ended his night early after he led the offense to a pair of scoring drives in a contest that was once 10-10. Geno Smith did not play with an ankle injury but it appears he won’t be at the top of the depth chart for now. In actuality, most starting jobs should be up fo grabs from a Jacksonville perspective with an offense that totaled just 286 yards and a defense that was saddled with over 400 yards. Altogether, the Jaguars turned the ball over three times, committed 12 penalties and held the ball for under 25 minutes.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in the Eagles defensive effort against Carolina because the Panthers looked as if they were just going through the motions. I don’t know how the Jaguars are going to approach this game with Gabbert and Smith a bit banged up but I do know what the Eagles intend to do, or so they say…
