Dallas Cowboys vs. Cincinnati Bengals Free Pick 8/24/13

The Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals face off on Saturday Night for a week 3 preseason NFL matchup.
The Dallas Cowboys have plenty of expectations once again this season but will it be the year they fulfill them or is it just another year they fall well short. QB Tony Romo has yet to prove himself as a winner as he seems to rack up stats but many of the big numbers seem to happen when the Cowboys are far behind and forced to pass in garbage time. Lance Dunbar was supposed to make in impact in the backfield this season but he is injured and out three to four weeks but Joseph Randle has looked good thus far and maybe this is the year DeMarco Murray stays healthy. If the Cowboys offense hopes to do anything Dez Bryant is going to need to be full tilt all 16 games as he has looked like a top tier receiver at times and other times he is invisible and while Miles Austin is a nice number two, he isn’t a number one. Jason Witten doesn’t have too much time left and his career could end up being wasted. Defensively the Cowboys secondary has gaping holes as Morris Claiborne is shaping up to be an outright bust and the secondary is dependent on the pass rush and luckily for them they have the best pass rusher in football in DeMarcus Ware.
The Cincinnati Bengals have gone to the playoffs two years in a item but they are at the point where just making it to the post season isn’t good enough, they need to win when they get there. Andy Dalton is in year three and while he has surpassed any expectations of him coming in, the bar has been raised. The running game had an injection of life last season with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and it should get even more life with Giovanni Bernard. A.J. Green is one of the top wide receivers in football but the Bengals have yet to find him a true compliment and with him not playing in preseason thus far several others like Mohamed Sanu and Brandon Tate but the pleasant surprise has been Dane Sanzenbacher. The Bengals defense is in good shape as they have a lot of luxuries as no team in the NFL brings pressure from their front four like Cincinnati and in the middle of the line Geno Atkins has emerged as one of the better interior defensive linemen in the league and free agent linebacker from last season Vontaze Burfict has fit right in.
The Bengals are what the Cowboys want to be except they get it done far lower underneath the radar than Dallas chooses to. Cincinnati’s star looks to be rising while the Cowboys just look lost as an organization from top to bottom. Look for it to show on the field even in the preseason matchup.
