It’s finally here: the only preseason games you need to pay attention to. Week 3 is considered to be the most accurate barometer of an NFL team’s intentions for the upcoming season, and we’ll get to see extended action from all of the starters this weekend. The action will kick off in the coming hours, starting out a nice five-day stretch of must-see games. That said, let’s take our daily look around the NFL before things get started. Here’s the latest.

Week 3 Preseason Schedule: The Patriots and Lions will get things started tonight, but most people will only get to see the Panthers and defending champ Ravens, as it’s the nationally televised game. Saturday’s the big day this weekend, as there will be 10 games spanning the afternoon into the wee hours. Here’s a look at the upcoming schedule.

Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears: Here’s an interesting nugget out of the Windy City. Even though Brandon Marshall is far and away Cutler’s favorite target, he made a point to come out in favor of his other receivers this week, specifically Alshon Jeffery. Cutler said he loves throwing to Jeffery, and sounded impressed with his camp and off-season work.
Cutler’s got some work to do in displaying that love on the field, as all five of his pass attempts last week went to BFF Marshall. We’d imagine someone else will get at least a couple of looks tomorrow in Oakland, and that someone will likely be Jeffery.

Steelers RB Situation: The hot topic around the league (and in many fantasy circles) is the Steelers backfield. Things are pretty murky right now, given rookie (and assumed No. 1) Le’Veon Bell’s foot injury. He’ll be out for Saturday’s game against KC, which will open the door for the other running backs to make an impact.
The one expected to benefit the most from Bell’s absence is Isaac Redman, who came back to practice yesterday after sitting out due to a stinger suffered last week. He’s the most promising name in an RB stable that includes Jonathan Dwyer and LaRod Stephens-Howling as potential contributors. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with Bell’s foot, but in the meantime, Saturday’s game should provide some insight into how the carries will be divvied up in Pittsburgh.

Randall Cobb, WR, Green Bay Packers: Just a quick note on Cobb this morning: he was back in practice yesterday, after missing time with a biceps injury. He and fellow WR Jordy Nelson (knee) missed out on the Packers’ last preseason game.
Cobb was a regular contributor to the Green Bay offense last year, with 954 yards and eight scores on 80 grabs. Expect more of the same in 2013.
