Week 3 of the preseason is officially underway, and we’ll be seeing “dress rehearsal” NFL action all weekend. From here on out, the league news will be coming fast and furious, so we’ll keep you updated each day. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy happenings around the league. Here’s the latest.

Patriots-Lions Highlights: There were highlights on just one side of last night’s New England-Detroit game, as the Lions dismantled the Patriots 40-9. Sure, it was only preseason, but Tom Brady and company looked especially out-of-sorts in a very one-sided matchup. The offense lost four of their first five possessions in turnovers, and the first team could only muster three points in the first half. Meanwhile, a Calvin Johnson-less Matthew Stafford was pretty uneven (12-for-25 for 166) but got the job done thanks to new toy Reggie Bush (103 receiving yards).

Panthers-Ravens Highlights: The Carolina-Baltimore game was a lot closer, with the Panthers taking the 34-27 victory over the defending champs. Defense and special teams ruled for Carolina, with the two squads combining for four touchdowns. That makes 10 turnovers in three games for the Panthers D.
On the other side, Joe Flacco was efficient but not effective, going 18-for-24 for 169 yards, a TD and two picks. Ray Rice was perhaps the biggest bright spot for the Ravens, as he rushed for 62 yards and a score on 16 carries.

Week 3 Preseason Schedule: We’ve got two more games coming up tonight, but most of the action will take place on Saturday, when we’ll have a full slate of 10 games beginning in the late afternoon. Let’s take a look at the remaining matchups on the schedule, and where you can find them.

Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans: As expected, Texans RB Arian Foster was removed from the PUP list yesterday and participated in his first practice with the team. Coach Kubiak reported his star back as looking quick and feeling happy, expressing optimism that the team would be able to move forward steadily from here on out.
Foster isn’t expected to see any action in the team’s two remaining preseason games, but believes he’ll be ready to go for the regular season. He’s been fighting off calf and back injuries during camp, which has some fans and pundits questioning whether or not he’ll be able to shoulder such a heavy rushing load this season. The Texans open things up on September 9 against the Chargers on Monday Night Football.
