The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs face off on Saturday Night for a week 3 NFL Preseason matchup.
The Pittsburgh Steelers watched the playoffs from home last season and they are hoping to reverse that this year and play beyond January. Ben Roethlisberger has taken a beating over the years with just bad pass blocking and while he is one of the larger QB’s in the history of the game and that frame helps him stay upright, it has also led to him taken extra hits when a normal QB would have already been down. With Rashard Mendenhall hopes were that rookie Le’Veon Bell would take over the starting running back job but bell has injured his foot giving Isaac Redman the chance to step up and claim the job. With Mike Wallace gone Emmanuel Sanders will be called upon to stretch the defense but Plaxico Burress whom Pittsburgh hoped would pay a role is now gone for the season. The Steelers defense is their best hope for success this season and Al Woods has 10 tackles this preseason, rookie Jarvis Jones has four tackles, and Troy Polamalu has four tackles. The Steelers are going to need everyone on the roster to be a significant contributor if they are going to have a chance against what looks to be a tough division.

The Kansas City Chiefs are hopeful that this will be the year and the team that turns their organization around and gets them headed in the right direction. With Andy Reid taking over as Head Coach and Alex Smith at QB among others. Smith and Reid have yet to guide the Chiefs to win and the reality of it is Smith hasn’t been overly impressive completing 58.3 percent of his passes while not throwing a touchdown pass. Jamaal Charles is banged up and did not play last week and no Chiefs’ running back has averaged more than 2.9 yards per carry. KC traded away the disappointing Jonathan Baldwin to the 49ers for A.J. Jenkins who has been equally disappointing but they can only hope the change of scenery will be the answer. Vince Agnew has 11 tackles thus far and Derrick Johnson has played sparingly, while Eric Berry has three tackles but he is going to need to have a big year. The Chiefs are talking a big game but I have yet to see it on the field and I will start to believe it when I see it.
I don’t like where either of these teams are at and for the Steelers it is about staying healthy for the season while for the Chiefs maybe something positive as there hasn’t been much positive except talk. If the Chiefs don’t win here look for it to be another long cold season.
