Starting this afternoon, we’ll be finishing off a frenzied weekend with the last pair of NFL games in Week 3 of the preseason. We’ve got Saints-Texans at 4:00 ET (FOX) and Vikings-49ers at 8:00 ET (NBC). While we’re waiting, let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy names and storylines happening around the league. There’s plenty to go over, so let’s get right to it.

Bills QB Worries: Buffalo has some things to think about after their Week 3 preseason game against the Washington Redskins last night. They were down to their third-string QB much quicker than they had hoped, with Jeff Tuel coming in during the first quarter after Kevin Kolb was kneed in the helmet. Tuel was efficient but cautious, completing 10 of 17 passes for 63 yards in the ugly 30-7 loss.
Bills rookie E.J. Manuel, who had an inside track on the starting job earlier in camp before sustaining a knee injury, has been ruled out for the rest of the preseason. Kolb has had a history of concussion issues, so this could spell major trouble for a Bills team hoping to improve in a vulnerable AFC East this season. We’ll keep you posted on any news out of Buffalo.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

Colts Take Care of Browns: Andrew Luck had a nice outing last night, tossing two touchdowns and a pick in a 16-for-25 line against the Browns. One of his scoring plays came courtesy of T.Y. Hilton, who is expected to reach new heights this season as a breakout WR for Indianapolis, who took the victory 27-6.
The Browns, meanwhile, spread things pretty thin, as QB Brandon Weeden threw for 105 yards on 12-for-25 passing and an ugly 59.6 rating. Trent Richardson, who will be the pivot point of the Cleveland offense, rushed for 31 yards on seven carries and added a reception for 10 more. The Browns have a legitimate shot to move up in the division this season, but they’ll have to get their offense moving first. We’ll see.

Jets QBs: The New York Jets’ quarterback situation just continues to get worse and worse. This time, an injury has been thrown into the mix as well, which further complicates the competition. Rookie Geno Smith got the start yesterday against the Giants, but struggled mightily in a three-interception performance against the Giants, so with the game on the line, Jets coach Rex Ryan decided to insert Mark Sanchez in the third quarter. That didn’t turn out to be such a good idea, as Sanchez ended up getting hurt thanks to a porous second-string offensive line. He sustained a shoulder injury, and though the situation is waiting on test results, this doesn’t look too good. It seems the Jets just can’t catch a break. They did end up winning, however: 24-21 in OT.

Broncos-Rams Notes: One of the more interesting games from last night’s slate was the Denver Broncos hosting the St. Louis Rams. It was definitely entertaining when the Broncos had the ball, with Peyton Manning tossing 34 times--and completing 25--on his way to a 234-yard outing that featured a TD and a fairly costly interception.
On that note, the Rams defense looked pretty good (they’re one of the up-and-coming squads in the league), as they were able to hold Denver’s high-flying offense to just 10 points in the first half. They were able to take advantage of the Broncos’ miscues and keep things interesting before ultimately falling 27-26.

Rob Housler, TE, Arizona Cardinals: One final note today: Cards fans will definitely want to keep an eye on any news coming out of the organization concerning Housler. He injured his right ankle during last night’s game against San Diego. Further tests are forthcoming.
Housler once again finished without a catch (he hasn’t recorded one yet this preseason) after a promising off-season that indicated he would be heavily involved in the passing game.
