The Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears meet in the Windy City for a preseason clash as both teams get prepared for the real thing in a couple weeks.
The Browns are coming off a shellacking at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts in preseason action in Indy last week and will look to have a better effort in this one as final rosters begin to take shape. The Browns haven’t had a meaningful season in years but perhaps things could be turning around as Trent Richardson is poised to break out as one of the league’s best backs this season and Brandon Weeden has shown signs that he to can handle starter’s minutes but it might still be a piece or two away from really making a difference. Defensively, the Browns look solid but they’ll need another season or two to find their way on offense and while I can see them making strides in the AFC North this season I don’t think the passing of the torch is ready to happen quite yet.

The Bears are coming off an eight point win in Oakland but you have to take any result against the Silver and Black with a grain of salt as they could very well be the worst team in the NFL this season. Chicago is optimistic that this season will be better than last but without Brian Urlacher anchoring the defense and Brandon Marshall essentially catching balls by himself it could be another disappointing campaign in the Windy City. Chicago does have a solid run game and if they can establish themselves as a run-first team and alleviate some pressure on Cutler than the Bears could surprise teams but I doubt that’s going to be in Marc Trestman’s plans this season. As for this contest I think the teams are closer than the lines might indicate but for all intents and purposes I am siding with the Bears here as I think home field will play a factor and that the Bears are just an edge better than Cleveland at the moment.
