The New York Giants look to close the preseason with a road victory over the New England Patriots.
The Giants fell to the rival Jets 24-21 in overtime as they failed to capitalize on constant miscues from their counterparts. The NYG had shown some ability to run and pass, but in the end they couldn't get a key stop and were kicking field goals instead of extra points. The hghlight for the offense came on the opening drive when David Wiilson took a hand off and rambled 84 yards for the first score of the game. Other than that, it was Josh Brown who went 4-5 on field goals and the Giants couldn't finish off numerous oppoprtunities. Eli Manning (8-20/83) was not sharp and Curtis Painter even less so, with a 13-29 effort for 140 yards. The defense held the Jets to 27-46 through the air but the 380 yards was the killer, while three interceptions and two fumble recoveries didn't result in enough scoring.

Even though it was 'only' preseason, the Patriots 40-9 loss at Detroit was an embarassing performance that we seldom see from this team, who is accustomed to handing out the punishment. The Lions starters handed the backups a 16-3 lead and the rout was continued in an all around lackluster effort from New England. Tom Brady (16-24/185) had a nice productive workout, but his interception was costly and was just one of four turnovers, with three lost fumbles. At the final gun, the Patriots couldn't run and the passing attack didn't do any thing out of the ordinary, while the defense was pushed around for four quarters. The Detroit offense did not turn the ball over, with over 450 total yards, 331 coming through the air, while the Patriots mustered 330 total yards themselves.
After watching the Giants slog through their game with the Jets and New England not showing an ounce of fight versus the Lions, I am surprised they don't cancel this game. I have no idea who is playing, but I'll back the home team because they were more embarassing...
