The New York Jets and the Philadelphia Eagles face off on Thursday in New Jersey as they close out their 2013 NFL Preseason.
While week four of the preseason in the NFL is generally about as bad as it gets for NFL Football (though some argue week 1 of the preseason is actually worse because we have more players who won’t even make the team), some games are going to be better than others and this one between the Eagles and Jets doesn’t look to be as bad as most.

The New York Jets have a lot of work to do and with little time left to do it, they are one of the few teams who have a little more urgency this week. With Mark Sanchez being injured after being brought in to play with the backups late last week, the Jets could be forced to start the season with rookie Geno Smith, who may be good someday, but that day isn’t now. I can forgive Smith for the three interceptions, especially the one to Justin Tuck where he dropped back into coverage, so it 'sunlikely Smith saw this in practice, but to roll out of the endzone for a safety just isn’t something we see that often. The Jets have to improve at a lot of positions, which is why I think we see players here we might see contributing later on. Matt Simms was far and away the best of the Jets QB’s last week, which should make them even more of a mess.
The Philadelphia Eagles have a roster full of nice options at QB and a garbage game like this is where that will pay dividends. With Michael Vick being the starter, we could see Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, and Matt Barkley all play here. The Eagles also have depth at running back and when you have a player like LeSean McCoy, the other backs don’t get much action so this is their day. Bryce Brown and Chris Polk should see plenty of carries here and at receiver look for everyone on the roster not named DeSean Jackson to get some time. Deensively, Casey Mathews is going to see more action as he has improved greatly and of course he has the connection with Chip Kelly, and Emmanuel Echo has been playing well. Trevard Lindley has landed on the depth chart and this could be a big one for him.
The Jets showed they could focus for seven minutes of a football game, which is a huge improvement for them, this is garbage week, though, and I think they revert back to form and get rolled by a more athletic team.
