NFL News: Player News and Updates for 9/2/13

This year, Labor Day marks the final day of respite before the NFL season officially kicks off. Thursday’s matchup between the Ravens and Broncos will begin a feverish opening week that’s got plenty of interesting matchups contained within. While we’re waiting for the big day, let’s take a glance around the league at some of the noteworthy storylines out there this morning. Here’s the latest.

Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings: It’ll be interesting to see what Peterson has in store for us this year. Coming off a season in which he naritemly missed the all-time single-season rushing record (Eric Dickerson had 2,105 in 1984; AP posted 2,097 in 2012), he’ll be hard-pressed to outdo himself.
Peterson has posted a personal goal of 2,500 yards for himself this year. That’s quite a lofty aspiration, but if there’s anyone out there who can do it, it’s him. The 28-year-old doesn’t have much time left before he hits that proverbial RB wall at 30, but odds are we haven’t seen the last of the magic from the reigning MVP.

Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams: The Rams haven’t had a whole lot to be excited about over the past few seasons, but things are starting to look up this year. Judging by their preseason tendencies, the team may have a multi-dimensional offensive attack for the first time since Kurt Warner left town.
Rams QB Sam Bradford carried a 10.2 yard-per-attempt average in the preseason this year, which indicates the team is willing to bust it out on offense with their new WR lineup headlines by hotshot rookie Tavon Austin. Factor in the Rams’ much-improved defense, and St. Louis just might contend in one of the most talented divisions in the NFL right now.

Tebow Clears Waivers: Barring some other team taking a chance on him, it seems Tim Tebow’s career in the NFL is finished for now. After being cut by the Patriots on Saturday, he cleared waivers, meaning no other team decided to pick him up.
There’s been talk of the former Bronco-Jet-Patriot beginning a career in the TV industry, or possibly doing some work in the ministry. Whatever path he chooses, Tebow is sure to have plenty of fans and supporters in his corner rooting for his success.
