Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Diego Chargers Free Pick 9/15/13

The Chargers and Eagles meet in Philadelphia with the teams coming off opposite Monday Night Football results to open the season.
The Chargers kicked-off the 2013-14 NFL season at home on Monday night against one of the league’s powerhouses in the Houston Texans and took complete control in all facets of the game, as they led the Super Bowl contenders by 14 points at the half. However, in typical San Diego Chargers fashion, the Bolts blew the game in the second half as Matt Schaub led a Texans surge in the final two quarters that ultimately culminated in a last second field goal to give the victory to the Houston. The Chargers now must travel to Philadelphia to face the Eagles in their home opener in a situation that looks very difficult for Mike McCoy and the Chargers to overcome, but as we saw in the opening weekend, anything can happen in the NFL. Phillip Rivers played respectably well in his season debut and Ryan Mathews appears as though he’s primed to make a return to glory as one of the league’s better backs, but defensively the Chargers looked sloppy, especially in the second half and if they give those opportunities to the Eagles and their high-powered offense, it could be a very long outing.
The Eagles went in to Washington as a mild underdog and escaped with a solid victory over their division rivals as they completely dominated Robert Griffin and the Redskins passing attack, and Lesean McCoy proved why he is talked about as one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. Philadelphia took a lot of people by storm, and while they still have some kinks to work out on both sides of the ball, they looked very good under the circumstances and now get to play at home, where the environment is always hostile for the visitor. Mike Vick looked great, at times, through the air and on the ground and Desean Jackson looks like he is poised for another strong season, which could see the Eagles make an unexpected charge up the NFC East standings. Playing in Chip Kelly’s home opener, I think the atmosphere will be electric, which should disrupt the Chargers’ offense and give a boost to the Eagles in all areas of the contest. Love the Eagles at home in this spot.
