The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints face off on Sunday for a week two NFL matchup of NFC South teams.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played not to lose in week one against the Jets as opposed to playing to win but losing is exactly what they did in the end. QB Josh Freeman was less than spectacular completing less than 50 percent of his passes with one touchdown and one interception. The expectations are big for Doug martin this year but Martin started the season rushing for 65 yards and touchdown but coughing the ball up two times and losing one. Vincent Jackson had seven catches for 154 yards and Mike Williams had four catches for 52 yards and a touchdown. Defensively Tampa Bay allowed 304 total yards but the big yards came at the end on a bad penalty that put the Jets in field goal range for the game winner. Leonard Johnson had eight tackles, Mason Foster had seven tackles, and Dashon Goldson had five tackles The Bucs are going to have to play better on offense and avoid the mistakes on defense if they hope to win games.

The New Orleans Saints opened the season with a rivalry game against the Atlanta Falcons and like the matchups between those two often do it came down to the final play; the Saints were fortunate to get the win. Drew Brees threw for 357 yards with two touchdowns with one interception. In the backfield the Saints split the carries almost exactly three way between Pierre Thomas, Darren Sproles, and Mark Ingram with none of them being overly effective. Sproles caught six passes while Marquis Colston caught five including a touchdown, and Jimmy Graham had four including a TD. The Saints defense allowed 367 yards which looks like a big improvement for them with just 88 yards allowed on the ground. Kenny Vaccaro led the Saints with five tackles, Malcolm Jenkins had four tackles, and Curtis Lofton had three. This week the Saints face a tougher matchup in the running game and also going on the road won’t make things any easier.
Tampa Bay is 9-25-1 against the spread in their last 35 home games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 3-0-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. New Orleans is 12-4 against the spread following a win, 8-3 against the spread against the NFC South, and 5-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. The road team is 14-6 against the spread in the last 20 meetings of these two.
This should be another tight one and really the Bucs backs are already to the wall as going to 0-2 in the NFC SOuth could mean the season is over. I look for the Buccaneers to rally here and get the win, but since we are getting a field goal, I will take the points just in case.
