The Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants face off on Sunday in a NFL battle of winless football teams.
The Carolina Panthers have opened the season 0-2 and it has just been a few plays that has kept them from being 2-0. After fumbling inside the Seattle five yard line in week one the Panthers allowed a touchdown on the games’ final play to lose in Buffalo in week 2. Cam Newton has completed 60.7 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and an interception but he has been sacked seven times. DeAngelo Williams has been a workhorse carrying the ball 39 times for 171 yards while Mike Tolbert has 10 carries. Greg Olsen has 12 catches and a touchdown, Steve Smith has 11 catches and a touchdown, and Ted Ginn and Brandon LaFell each have four catches as the Panthers still seem to be missing a definitive number two receiver. The Panthers defense has one interception, three sacks, and two fumble recoveries but they have allowed 403 yards per game. Luke Keuchly has 23 tackles, Thomas Davis has 20 tackles, and Jon Beason has 11 tackles as the Panthers defense seems to be on the field for a lot of plays.

The New York Giants haven’t been able to put it together as turnovers and an overall lack of chemistry have led to two losses. The Giants turned the ball over six times in their opener at Dallas and in week two against Denver it was a combination of turnovers and poor special teams play that was their undoing. Eli Manning has completed 60.4 percent of his passes with five touchdowns but he has thrown seven interceptions and he has been sacked four times. David Wilson has 14 carries for 36 yards and Brandon Jacobs had just four yards on seven carries in his return to the Giants as the running games has been poor. Victor Cruz has 13 catches and three touchdowns to lead the Giants while Brandon Myers has 13 catches, Hakeem Nicks has nine catches, and Rueben Randle has eight catches. Defensively the Giants have one interception, two sacks, and three fumble recoveries as they have literally been hung out to dry by the offense. Justin Tuck leads the Giants with 16 tackles, Prince Amukamara and Ryan Mundy have 14, and Spencer Paysinger and Terrell Thomas each have 12 tackles. The Giants need to turn things around in a hurry or the season will get away from them.
Carolina is 9-3 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 5-2 against the spread against NFC teams, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight home games. New York is 7-2-2 against the spread following a double-digit home loss, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games. The Road team has covered the spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
The Panthers have been blowing games late and Eli Manning is the king of the comeback so not a great combination for the home team and my play is on the Giants.
