The New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills face-off on Sunday in a battle of 1-1 AFC East teams.
The New York Jets played respectably against the Patriots in New England last Thursday and all they had to show for it was a loss, but at the same time they have an extra few days to gameplan for this game. The Jets always seem to be in some kind of turmoil and this season is no different, but they seem to be quieting the situation by playing above expectations on the field. Rookie QB Geno Smith is still learning and he has completed 53.4 percent of his passes with one touchdown and four interceptions, but he isn’t getting a lot of help as he has been sacked nine times. Bilal Powell is averaging 3.1 yards per carry with one touchdown and Chris Ivory averages 3.0 yards. Stephen Hill and Kellen Winslow each have 10 catches to lead the Jets, while Santonio Holmes has four catches. The Jets defense has four sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries and really they have carried the day for this team. Antonio Allen, DeMario Davis, and David Harris each have 14 tackles for Gang Green. The expectations are so low for the Jets that at 1-1 they are already exceeding them, but there is still a lot of football to be played.

The Buffalo Bills have been in two of the more exciting games this young NFL season and they have been on both ends of the results, with a win and a loss. Last week against the Panthers they scored a touchdown with time winding down to get the win. Rookie QB E.J. Manuel has completed 68.2 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and an interception and he has been sacked just once. C.J. Spiller is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and he has nine catches out of the backfield, while Fred Jackson is averaging 3.9 yards per carry and has eight catches. Stevie Johnson has 11 catches and two touchdowns to lead the Bills’ receivers, while Scott Chandler has seven catches and Robert Woods has five. The Buffalo defense is greatly improved registering eight sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery and this is what is expected, as they have put a lot of salary into the defensive side. Aaron Williams has 21 tackles, Kiko Alonso has 19 tackles, and Mario Williams has 4.5 sacks in just the two games. Buffalo has started strong the past few seasons and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain it.
New York is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven against the AFC, 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, and 1-5 against the spread following a loss. Buffalo is 4-1 against the spread against the AFC East, 4-10-1 against the spread in their last 15 road games, and 3-10-1 against the spread following a game in which they covered the point spread. The favorite has covered the spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
We have two rookie QB’s and two good defenses and I see the defenses winning that battle and making points scarce. My free pick here is on the under that I see at 39. I also have a play on who will cover the spread and I will post that winner in the Premium Area.
