The Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints face off on Sunday at Soldier Field in a week 5 battle of two of the NFL’s top teams.
The Chicago bears tasted defeat for the first time this year last Sunday when they lost to division rival Detroit on the road in a game they simply fell too far behind to come back. With the loss the Bears are now tied for first place in the NFC North with a 3-1 record. The Bears offense is averaging 31.8 points per game and 352.2 yards. QB Jay Cutler has completed 64.2 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and six interceptions while being sacked six times. Matt Forte is carrying the bulk in Chicago backfield averaging 4.6 yards per carry with three touchdowns and catching 23 passes. Brandon Marshall is off to a big start with 27 catches and two touchdowns, Martellus Bennett has 20 catches and three touchdowns, and Alshon Jeffery has 18 catches and a touchdown. Defensively the Bears are allowing 28.5 points per game and 384 yards with six interceptions, six sacks, and 11 fumble recoveries. Lance Briggs has 37 tackles, Major Wright has 30 tackles, and James Anderson has 23 tackles while Charles Tillman and Major Wright have two interceptions each. The Bears are looking to bounce right back after last week’s disappointment.

After missing the playoffs last season the New Orleans Saints are a perfect 4-0 and already have a comfortable lead in the NFL South. After a year of suspensions and turmoil the Saints are back to business and look as good as ever on both sides of the ball. Offensively the Saints are averaging 27 points and 419.5 yards per game. QB Drew Brees has completed 66.9 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions while being sacked 12 times. Pierre Thomas is averaging 3.5 yards per carry with 19 catches while Darren Sproles averages 4.2 yards per carry with 23 catches and a touchdown. Tight end Jimmy Graham is the Saints leading receiver with 27 catches and six touchdowns, Marques Colston has 21 catches and a touchdown, and Kenny Stills has seven catches. Defensively th Saints are allowing 13.8 points and 304.5 yards per game Curtis Lofton has 26 tackles, Kenny Vaccaro has 21 tackles, and Malcolm Jenkins and David Hawthorne have 18 tackles each. The Saints need to contend with a short practice week and a road trip as well as the Bears.
Chicago is 5-1 against the spread after allowing 30 or more points their previous game, 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 2-6-1 against the spread n their last nine games overall. New Orleans is 14-5 against the spread in their last 19 games, 11-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games. The home team is 4-0-2 against the spread in the last six meetings of these two.
Both of these offenses are putting up points and the total is set in a tough spot so I see it coming in just below and my free pick in this one is on the under. My stronger play is on which team will cover the spread and I will post who covers the spread in the Premium Area.
