The New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles meet in a NFL Week 5 match up of two of the teams with the biggest struggles thus far this NFL season.
The New York Giants are off to an 0-4 start to the season and as bad as the record is their play on the field has been worse. The giants haven’t been close losing one-sided games week after week. The Giants’ offense is averaging 15.2 points and 325.5 yards per game. Eli Manning has completed 56.3 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and nine interceptions while being sacked 14 times. The Giants running game has been awful with David Wilson is averaging 3.4 yards per carry and Da’Rel Scott is averaging 3.5 yards per carry with Brandon Jacobs scoring New York’s only rushing touchdown of the season. Victor Cruz leads the Giants receivers with 26 catches and four touchdowns, Brandon Myers has 16 catches, Hakeem Nicks has 12 catches, and Rueben Randle has 11 catches. The Giants defense allows a NFL worst 36.5 points per game and they also allow 384.2 yards per game wit four interceptions, four sacks, and three fumble recoveries. Ryan Mundy and Mark Herzlich each have 26 tackles and Spencer Paysinger and Prince Amukamara each have 23 tackles. The Giants season is quickly getting away from them.
The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports
The Philadelphia Eagles opened up the season with a win but it has been downhill since then as they have lost their last three. The Eagles offense is averaging 24.8 points and 458.8 yards per game. Michael Vick has completed just 55.1 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions while being sacked 14 times and rushing for 228 yards and two touchdowns. LeSean McCoy is averaging 6.0 yards per carry with two touchdowns and he also has seven catches. DeSean Jackson has 21 catches with two touchdowns, Jason Avant has 12 catches, and Riley Cooper has eight catches. Defensively the Eagles are allowing a 31st ranked 34.5 yards per game and a NFL worst 446.8 yards per game with two interceptions 10 sacks, and four fumble recoveries. Demeco Ryans has 36 tackles, Mychal Kendricks has 31 tackles, and Nate Allen has 30 tackles. The Eagles clearly need to get it together on both sides of the football.
New York is 3-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 0-4 against the spread following a loss, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record. Philadelphia is 8-21-1 against the spread following a loss, 3-9-1 against the spread against the NFC, and 1-6 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Philadelphia is 7-2-1 against the spread in the last 10 meetings of these two.
I don’t feel comfortable laying points with the Giants right now and until they can show me even a shred of something I am going the other way.
