The Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off on Sunday in the Georgia dome in a NFL battle of two struggling NFC South teams.
The Atlanta Falcons have been regulars in the playoffs the past several seasons but it is going to take some work for them to continue that trend this season. The Falcons offense is averaging 24.4 points and 391.4 yards per game as they are second in the NFL passing at 313 yards per game and 26th in the NFL in rushing averaging just 78.4 yards per game. Matt Ryan has completed 69.3 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions and he has been sacked nine times. Jacquizz Rodgers is averaging 3.4 yards per carry with two touchdowns, Jason Snelling is averaging 4.0 yards per carry, and Steven Jackson is averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Julio Jones was leading the Falcons in receiving but he is out but Tony Gonzalez has 33 catches and three touchdowns, Harry Douglas has 16 catches, and Roddy White has 14 catches. Defensively the Falcons are allowing 26.8 points and 372.2 yards and they have three interceptions, 11 sacks, and two fumble recoveries. Robert McClain has 30 tackles, William Moore has 27 tackles, and Thomas DeCoud has 24 tackles. The Falcons simply haven’t gotten it done on the field this year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have yet to win a game this season and what looked promising this off-season now looks like a train wreck. The Bucs offense has been horrible averaging 12.8 points and 290 yards both ranking them 31st in the NFL. Mike Glennon is a disaster at QB completing 58.1 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked four times. Doug Martin has underachieved averaging 3.5 yards per carry with a touchdown and he has 11 catches. Vincent Jackson has 26 catches and two touchdowns, and Mike Williams has 15 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively the Buccaneers are allowing 20.2 points and 350.8 yards with six interceptions, 14 sacks, and six fumble recoveries. Dashon Goldson and Lavonte David have 38 tackles each and Mark Barron has 35 tackles. The Buccaneers have some work to do if they expect to get into the win column.
Atlanta is 1-4 against the spread following a loss, 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, and 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games overall. Tampa Bay is 3-1-1 against the spread against the NFC South, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 road games, and 0-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay is 5-1 against the spread in their last six games in Atlanta.
While the Falcons have been bad, you aren’t going to see me put my hard earned money anywhere near Mike Glennon especially on the road so my pick here is the Falcons.
