The New York Jets and the New England Patriots face off for the second time this season on Sunday in a NFL AFC East matchup.
The New York Jets are at.500 and whether this is above or below expectations, this is a team that plays extremely well in some areas while still needs plenty of help in others. Offensively the Jets are averaging 17.3 points per game which ranks them 29th in the NFL and they are also averaging 336.7 yards per game. Rookie QB Geno Smith has completed 59.5 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions while being sacked 21 times. Bilal Powell leads the Jets ground attack averaging 4.1 yards per carry and a touchdown and he also has 15 receptions and Chris Ivory is averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Stephen Hill leads New York in receiving with 18 catches, Jeremy Kerley has 16 catches, and Clyde Gates has 12 receptions. The Jets defense allows 22.5 points per game and 303.8 yards per game which ranks 4th best in the NFL and they have one interception, 20 sacks, and seven fumble recoveries. David Harris has 52 tackles and two sacks, Demario Davis has 43 tackles, and Dawan Landry has 34 tackles. The Jets seem to lack a true weapon on offense.

The New England Patriots are coming off of an exciting last minute win against the Saints that preserved their lead atop the AFC East. The Patriots offense is averaging 20.8 points per game and 348.8 yards and they have a plus five turnover margin. Tom Brady is completing just 56.9 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and four interceptions while being sacked 16 times. Stevan Ridley leads the Patriots ground attack averaging 4.0 yards per carry with two touchdowns but LeGarrette Blount is seeing increased action and he is averaging 4.1 yards per carry. The Patriots receivers are led by Julian Edelman who has 41 catches and two touchdowns, Kembrell Tompkins who has 21 catches and four touchdowns, and Aaron Dobson who has 19 catches and a touchdown. Defensively New England allows 16.2 points per game which is 4th best in the NFL and 347.7 yards per game and they have seven interceptions, 14 sacks, and six fumble recoveries. Jerod Mayo has 55 tackles, Steve Gregory has 41 tackles, and Chandler Jones has 4.5 sacks. The Patriots don’t do anything fancy but they continue to win games.
New York is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games against the AFC, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight home games against a team with a winning road record. New England is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games following a cover, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, and 0-4 against the spread against the AFC. New England has covered the point spread in 12 of the last 14 meetings of these two in New York.
The way it usually works between these two teams is one of the games is close and the other isn’t so since the first meeting was close, this one should fit the pattern and not be close with New England winning a one sided game.
