Now that the Vikings-Giants game has concluded, we can bid a fond farewell to Week 7 in the NFL and start looking forward to Week 8. There are plenty of interesting matchups coming up, starting in just two more days with “Thursday Night Football.” In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy topics around the league right now. Here’s the latest.

Vikings-Giants Notes: There weren’t a whole lot of good things to speak of in the Giants’ 23-7 win against the Vikings on “Monday Night Football” last night, but New York got the job done. The Giants’ defense was the real star here, as they limited Adrian Peterson to 28 yards on the ground.
It was also good to see former Madden cover-boy Peyton Hillis back in action. He didn’t get much done on the ground, with just 36 rush yards, but he did have 45 through the air and also came up with a 1-yard TD.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Jermichael Finley, TE, Green Bay Packers: Finley suffered a scary injury over the weekend in the Packers’ game against the Browns, but the good news is that he’s doing much better. The latest word on him is that he’s still in the hospital, but out of the intensive care unit.
Finley suffered a bruised spinal cord in Week 7, which is a very scary-sounding neck injury. He has feeling in his arms and legs and was reportedly moving and walking around yesterday. There’s no word yet on how long he’ll be out of action.

Brian Cushing, LB, Houston Texans: The Texans defense was dealt a huge blow yesterday, when it was announced that their star LB Brian Cushing would be missing the rest of the season due to a broken fibula and torn LCL. He suffered the injury during the team’s Week 7 game against the Chiefs, after being hit by Jamaal Charles on a blitz.
Cushing’s recovery timetable is around three months, but the good news is that he should be able to make a complete recovery. He’ll be getting corrective surgery done today by none other than Dr. James Andrews.

C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills: Spiller’s team got a win in Miami on Sunday, but his stats were pretty abysmal. He posted just seven total yards on six carries and three receptions, which qualifies as his worst performance of the year. Spiller hasn’t been able to do much this season, and the issue is apparently his ailing ankle.
He’s been fighting the ailment for at least the past three games, and it shows in his stats: he hasn’t been able to top 66 yards in that span. According to the Bills coaching staff, they’re going to keep playing him, too. The Bills will keep an eye on Spiller during practice, and if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, he’ll continue to take the field on Sundays. Whether or not that’ll be a wise decision remains to be seen. Buffalo will head to New Orleans this week.

NFL Week 8 Schedule: Now that Week 7 is officially in the books, we can start looking ahead to the upcoming games. It’ll be a big round for byes, as six teams have the weekend off. Here’s a look at the full schedule in the NFL, as well as the times and TV networks carrying your favorite teams.
