The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers face off on Thursday Night at Raymond James Stadium in NFL action.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have yet to win a game this season and they appear to already be playing for next year and beyond. The Buccaneers offense is averaging 14.5 points and 297.8 yards per game and are dead even in turnover margin. Mike Glennon has taken over at QB for Tampa Bay and he has completed 58.5 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked seven times. Doug Martin has been the workhorse in the Bucs backfield but he is banged up and doubtful for this one so it should be Mike James getting the bulk of the carries. Vincent Jackson leads the Buccaneers in receiving with 36 catches, Mike Williams has 19 catches, and Timothy Wright has 15. Defensively Tampa Bay allows 22 points and 340.8 yards per game and they are fifth in the NFL against the run allowing 88.8 rushing yards per game and they also have six interceptions, 14 sacks, and seven fumble recoveries. Lavonte David has 48 tackles and 4.0 sacks, Dashon Goldson has 40 tackles, and Mark Barron and Mason Foster have 37 tackles each. The Buccaneers defense has been hung out to ddry by the ineptitude of their offense.

The Carolina Panthers have won three of their last four games to get back to .500 and they have to be wondering “what if” as two od their early losses were games they seemingly had won. The Panthers offense is averaging 23.2 points and 327.5 yards per game and they are plus five turnover margin. QB Cam Newton has completed 63.5 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions and he has been sacked 18 times but he has also rushed for 179 yards and two touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams leads the Panthers running game with a 4.1 yards per carry average and he has 12 receptions out of the backfield. Steve Smith is Carolina’s leading receiver with 28 catches and three touchdowns, Greg Olsen has 27 catches, and Brandon LaFell has 18 catches and three touchdowns. Carolina has one of the best defenses in the NFL allowing a second best 13.8 points and third best 302.2 yards per game and they have nine interceptions, 19 sacks, and seven fumble recoveries. Luke Keuchly has 48 tackles, Thomas Davis has 47 tackles and three sacks, and Greg Hardy and Charles Johnson have four sacks each. Carolina has to e thinking they are a playoff contender at this point.
Tampa Bay is 0-4 against the spread following a loss, 10-27-1 against the spread in their last 28 home games, and 2-6-1 against the spread against the NFC. Carolina is 5-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 6-2 against the spread against the NFC, and 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 road games. The favorite has covered the point spread in nine of the last 11 meetings of these two.
This one is going to be decided by the defense as it is the stronger unit for both teams and while the total is agressively low, I still like the under with my free pick. I also will have a pick on which team covered the point spread and I will post that in the Premium Area.
