NFL Updates: Packers-Vikings, Seahawks-Rams Injuries and More
October 27, 2013
Week 8 will be kicking off (pardon the pun) around the NFL today, and there’s plenty to look forward to in the coming hours. We’ve got lots of interesting subtext to this injury-heavy and schedule-thin weekend, so there will be a lot to go over once the games are completed. In the meantime, let’s check in on some of the noteworthy happenings out there and see what we should be expecting.
What to Watch Tonight: This evening’s edition of “Sunday Night Football” will feature an NFC North matchup with potential playoff implications. The Minnesota Vikings will be hosting the Green Bay Packers, who sit atop the division with a 4-2 record. Meanwhile, Minnesota is in the basement, thanks to a 1-5 record and nothing much going right this season.
If the Vikings want to stay in this game, they’ll have to do it on the strength of Christian Ponder, who will be filling in for the concussed Josh Freeman. Ponder needs to keep the passing game going just enough to create room for the struggling Adrian Peterson.
On the other side, the big question mark belongs to the Packers’ receiving corps. They’ve been absolutely decimated over the past couple of weeks, with the latest casualty being No. 1 TE Jermichael Finley. If the remaining players can step up and fill in adequately (not to mention the required contribution from Eddie Lacy), Green Bay should continue to assert their dominance in the otherwise mediocre NFC North.

Seahawks-Rams Injuries: Compared to a lot of NFL teams out there, the Seahawks and Rams are doing pretty well with injuries. That could have some effect on the outcome of their Week 8 game, which takes place tomorrow on “Monday Night Football.” The injury reports have come in, so let’s take a closer look at the list for each team.
Seahawks Injuries: RB Derrick Coleman and S Jeron Johnson are both out due to hamstring injuries. The remaining players are probable: RB Christine Michael (illness), WR Golden Tate (shoulder) and LB Bobby Wagner (knee).
Rams Injuries: For St. Louis, the three names on their report are questionable. RB Benny Cunningham (ankle), CB Cortland Finnegan (thigh) and C Scott Wells (thigh).
Brandon Jacobs, RB, New York Giants: Let’s take a quick look at the Giants backfield to see what’s happening there. We’re expecting to see a heavy dose of Peyton Hillis once again, as current No. 1 and NFL vet Brandon Jacobs is listed as doubtful on the injury report. He’s dealing with a hamstring injury that kept him out of action last week.
For the record, Jacobs did travel with the team to Philadelphia, so there’s got to be some shred of hope there.
NFL Week 8 Schedule: Today’s the big day; Week 8 begins in just a matter of hours. With all the converging storylines happening around the league, it should make for an interesting set of games. Here’s one last look at the full schedule, as well as the times and TV networks carrying the games.
