The New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints face off on Sunday in New Jersey in an AFC vs. NFC week 9 NFL football matchup.
The New York Jets have had their share of ups and downs over the first half of the season but in the end they are 4-4 and in second place in the AFC East. The Jets offense is averaging 17.9 points and 300.4 yards per gams with a turnover ratio of minus 12. Geno Smith has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 1,882 yards with eight touchdowns and 13 interceptions and he has been sacked 28 times. The New Orleans Saints are 6-1 and in first place in the NFC South and have distanced themselves from the chasers in the division. The Saints offense is averaging 28 points and 396 yards and they are plus eight in turnover ratio. Drew Brees has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 2,290 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions and he has been sacked 18 times. Pierre Thomas has rushed for 253 yards with 32 receptions out of the backfield and Khiry Robinson has rushed for 146 yards, a 4.4 yard per carry average but Mark Ingram could be active this week after missing five games. Jimmy Graham has 40 receptions and eight touchdowns, Darren Sproles has 36 catches, and Marques Colston as 27 catches. The Saints defense allows 17.1 points and 332.4 yards per game with nine interceptions, 24 sacks, and 10 fumble recoveries. Curtis Lofton has 55 tackles, Kenny Vaccaro has 37 tackles, and Cameron Jordan has six sacks. While the Saints offense has been impressive it has been the improved defense which has been the key to their success.
New York is 4-0 against the spread after scoring less than 15 points their previous week, 5-2 against the spread after allowing more than 350 yards in their previous game, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six November games. New Orleans is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 15-6 against the spread following a win, and 16-7 against the spread following a game which they covered the point spread.
While the Saints are the better team the Jets seem to have a way of dragging teams down and making them uncomfortable and I can see that happening here so while the Saints might escape with a win I like the Jets to cover.
