The Line: San Diego Chargers +7 -- Over/Under: 55.5 See the Latest Odds
The San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos face off on Sunday in San Diego for a NFL NFC West matchup.
The San Diego Chargers have been tough to figure out this season as their inconsistency has made them look like world-beaters some weeks and scrubs the next. The Chargers offense is averaging 24 points and 403.8 yards per game but they are minus seven in turnover ratio. Phillip Rivers has completed 72.2 percent of his passes for 2,473 yards with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions and he has been sacked 12 times. Ryan Mathews has rushed for 480 yards and a touchdown and Danny Woodhead has rushed for 193 yards and he has 49 receptions and three touchdowns. Antonio Gates has 48 catches for 550 yards and two touchdowns, Keenan Allen has 34 catches and three touchdowns, and Vincent Brown has 27 catches. Defensively the Chargers allow 21.8 points and 393.8 yards per game with four interceptions, 20 sacks, and five fumble recoveries. Eric Weddle has 62 tackles and Marcus Gilchrist and Derek Cox each have 34 tackles. The Chargers had three cracks from the half-yard line in the waning moments last week and failed to get the ball in the endzone to take the lead and settled for a field goal and overtime in a game they eventually lost.

The Denver Broncos are 7-1 on the season but in the AFC West that is only good enough for second place. The Broncos are first in the NFL in offense in both points, 42.9, and yards, 466.4, per game and they are minus one in turnover ratio. Peyton Manning is on pace for a record breaking year completing 71.2 percent of his passes for 2,919 yards with 29 touchdowns and six interceptions and he has been sacked 11 times. Knowshon Moreno has rushed for 456 yards and eight touchdowns and he has 29 receptions out of the backfield. Wes Welker has 50 receptions and nine touchdowns and Demaryius Thomas has 48 catches and six touchdowns, Eric Decker has 46 catches and three touchdowns, and Julius Thomas has 39 catches and eight touchdowns. The Broncos defense allows 27.2 points and 380.6 yards per game with 13 interceptions, 22 sacks, and six fumble recoveries. Danny Trevathan has 59 tackles and three interceptions, Duke Ihenacho has 50 tackles, and Shaun Phillips has 6.5 sacks. THe Broncos still have two games against the first place Kansas City Chiefs on the schedule.
San Diego is 6-0 against the spread following a loss, 5-2-1 against the spread in their last eight games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record. Denver is 7-3-1 against the spread following a game in which they covered the point spread, 1-3-1 against the spread following a win, and 7-3-1 against the spread against the AFC West. Denver is 3-9-2 against the spread in the last 14 meetings of these two.
Divisional games usually make for close games as teams are built to play against the teams in their division which means these two should matchup well. I see a close one here so getting a touchdown with the home team is an almost automatic take.
