NFL Updates: Smith, Daniels, Week 13 Schedule and More
November 26, 2013
Now that Week 12 is in the rearview mirror, we can start looking forward to Week 13, which begins in just a couple of days on Thanksgiving. We’ve got plenty of topics to cover in the meantime, so let’s get right down to business and take our daily look around the league at some of the notable storylines out there. Here’s the latest.
49ers-Redskins Notes: Last night’s edition of “Monday Night Football” proved to be a snoozer for just about everyone except 49ers fans. They manhandled the struggling Redskins, ending up with a big 27-6 victory.
Colin Kaepernick was the star here, with 235 passing yards and three touchdowns. Two of them went to veteran receiver Anquan Boldin.
On the other side, the Redskins just couldn’t get anything going offensively. They managed just 190 total yards of offense in the game, with a measly 30 coming in the second half.

Browner to be Suspended: This news broke last night: third-year Seahawk Brandon Browner will be suspended for a year for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse. This would be his second offense, which makes him eligible for the hefty punishment. The Seahawks, however, are prepared to skip waiting on the appeal process (which has already begun) and will more than likely just cut him.
Browner is a free agent at the end of the season. He’s currently fighting off a groin injury and is expected to be healthy sometime next month.
Owen Daniels, TE, Houston Texans: It’s been a while since we’ve seen Daniels. He’s been out since Week 5 with a fractured fibula, and is on short-term injured reserve. The good news is that he was able to practice yesterday, and is reportedly “real close” to making a return to the field.
That said, we wouldn’t imagine the Texans are too eager to push Daniels in his recovery; their season is pretty much in the tank.
Geno Smith, QB, New York Jets: Despite his horrid numbers against the Ravens (127 pass yards, two interceptions), Smith will remain the starter for the Jets this week. There have been some cries for his removal in recent weeks, as some fans are clamoring for backup Matt Simms to take the reins.
Another bad showing against the Dolphins this week, and the Jets just may throw in the towel. Smith, who was their second-round pick, has gone 25-of-64 (a 39.1 completion percentage) for just 345 yards, no touchdowns and five interceptions over the last three games.
NFL Week 13 Schedule: The bye weeks are over, so it’ll be a full round of games once again when the NFL picks back up on Thanksgiving. Here’s a look at the full schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the games on.
