The Cincinnati Bengals head into Qualcomm Stadium on Sunday coming off a bye week looking to upend a Chargers team coming off a huge victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Bengals had the week off to rest and prepare for the final stretch of the regular season and with the way things have unfolded in the AFC North the Bengals are very much in a position to win the division as they sit with a 7-4 record and are a full two games up on the Ravens and Steelers for the division lead. Cinci has had some tough outings this year that question their status as a playoff contender but they have also responded nicely in week’s following and are a team that should be in a position to compete come playoff time. The Bengals do travel west to take on a Chargers team who is also in the hunt for the playoffs and while a division title is a major longshot the Bolts are in a position to clinch a wild card berth and this is a huge contest for both teams. Andy Dalton needs to outduel Phillip Rivers here and while that is much easier said than done it is the Bengals who have the most explosive player in the game in AJ Green and an ex-factor type back in Giovani Bernard.

San Diego is coming off their biggest victory of the season as they went into Arrowhead Stadium and outlasted the Chiefs in what was one of the best games you’ll see this season. Phillip Rivers was brilliant behind centre as he led a game winning drive in spectacular fashion and versatile running back Danny Woodhead is really making a name for himself out of the backfield and through the return game. The Chargers are a little suspect on defense which is concerning as the Bengals offense is really solid but Rivers and Co should be able to keep pace with the Bengals who to me are a much better team at home than on the road. While this is normally a game I run for the hills in the opposite direction in terms of backing the Chargers as they always seem to drop must wins contests after a huge win but for some reason I am leaning towards the Bolts here. While AJ Green will get his yards and likely get into the endzone I think it is San Diego’s offense that is more efficient and will do more with the clock. I think the Chargers get another close win possibly on a last second swing from Nick Novak.
