The New York Jets and the Oakland Raiders face off on Sunday in New York in a NFL battle of AFC teams.
The New York Jets alternated wins and losses through their first 10 games, but they have now lost three games in a row. The Jets were dominated last week at home by the Dolphins and their playoff hopes are fading fast. After being benched last week, Geno Smith remains the starter and he has completed 54.7 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and 19 interceptions, while being sacked 38 times. Bilal Powell has rushed for 516 yards and Chris Ivory has rushed for 563 yards, but the Jets running attack hasn’t been effective. Jeremy Kerly has 28 receptions and Stephen Hill has 24 receptions and they lead the Jets with those paltry numbers. David Harris has 98 tackles to lead the Jets defense, DeMario Davis has 89 tackles, and Muhammed Wilkerson has 10 sacks. The Jets defense has been hung out to dry by the ineffective offense.

The Oakland Raiders have lost four of their last five games as they have seen their playoff hopes slip away once again. With no solution at QB, the Raiders continue to struggle and look directionless. Terrelle Pryor is healthy once again, but last week the Raiders went with matt McGloin who has four touchdowns and two interceptions, while completing 56.9 percent of his passes. Rashad Jennings and Darren McFadden have handled the running game and each have four touchdowns. Rod Streater has 43 receptions to lead the Raiders and Denarius Moore has 37 receptions and he is questionable this week after missing last week’s game. Nick Roach has 89 tackles and 5.5 sacks and he looks like a Pro Bowl linebacker, Kevin Burnett has 83 tackles, and Charles Woodson has 71 tackles. The Raiders offense is averaging 19.8 points and 331.3 yards per game, while defensively they are allowing 25 points and 356.8 yards per game. It is just a matter of how much losing Raider fans are willing to take that will ultimately drive the direction of this franchise.
New York is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, 0-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 2-5 against the spread following a double-digit home loss. Oakland is 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven road games, 7-2-1 against the spread against the AFC, 2-9-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. The home team is 5-1-1 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.
I am not sure how the Jets are favored against anyone at this point and watching this game should be just miserable. I am going to take the points as a close sloppy game is the likely scenario.
