The Philadelphia Eagles and the Detroit Lions face off on Sunday in Philadelphia in a NFC NFL matchup with huge playoff implications.
The Philadelphia Eagles are tied for first place in the NFC East and have won their last four games in a row. Despite being tied for first in the division, the Eagles would be on the outside looking in if the playoffs started today.
Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports
Nick Foles has been spectacular, completing 63.3 percent of his passes for 19 touchdowns with no interceptions, while being sacked 17 times. Le Sean McCoy has rushed for 1,088 yards and five touchdowns and he has 39 receptions out of the backfield. DeSean Jackson has 61 receptions and seven touchdowns and Riley Cooper has 34 catches and seven touchdowns. DeMeco Ryans has 105 tackles and three sacks to lead the Eagles defense, Mychal Kendricks has 76 tackles, and Nate Alllen has 71 tackles. The Eagles are hot at the right time, but they are going to need to stay hot and get some help as well to make the playoffs.
The Detroit Lions are in first place in the NFC North and with four games left to play, they control their own destiny when it comes to the playoffs. The Lions ended a two game losing streak with a win on Thanksgiving Day against the Packers so they have had a few extra days to prepare for this one. Matthew Stafford has completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 3,825 yards with 27 touchdowns and 14 interceptions and he has been sacked 15 times. Reggie Bush has rushed for 854 yards and he has 45 receptions and Joique Bell has six rushing touchdowns. Calvin Johnson has 72 receptions and 12 touchdowns and he remains on of the best in the NFL at any position and Brandon Pettigrew has 45 catches. Stepehn Tulloch has 97 tackles, DeAndre Levy has 95 tackles and six interceptions, and Ndamukung Suh has 5.5 sacks. The Lions have overcome some questionable decisions from the bench, but the reality is they have lost some winnable games.
Philadelphia is 8-20-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 5-20-1 against the spread in their last 26 home games, and 0-6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record. Detroit is 1-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, 1-4-1 against the spread after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game, and 0-3-1 against the spread following a win by 14 or more points.
This is a possible playoff preview and while I have seen the Lions blow games, I like them with the points here.
