The San Diego Chargers and the New York Giants face off on Sunday in San Diego in NFL Football action.
The San Diego Chargers have lost four of their last five games and while they aren’t out of the playoff hunt, their hopes are fading. The Chargers are in 10th place in the AFC playoff pecking order, needing to move up to sixth to make the post season. Phillip Rivers has completed 70 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Ryan Mathews has rushed for 782 yards and Danny Woodhead has rushed for 288 yards and he has 61 receptions and five receiving touchdowns. Antonio Gates has 64 catches and three touchdowns and Keenan Allen has 58 catches and three touchdowns. Eric Weddle has 90 tackles to lead the Chargers defense, Donald Butler has 59 catches, and Richard Marshall and Marcus Gilchrist have 51 tackles each. The San Diego offense is averaging 23.2 points and 401.6 yards per game, while defensively they are allowing 23.1 points and their opponents are posting 386.6 yards per game. The Chargers seem to have plenty of quality players, but they are still missing just a few pieces.

The New York Giants are 5-7 for the season, but the odds of them making the playoffs are looking slim at this point. The Giants are just 2-4 on the road this season and have won five of their last six games. Eli Manning has completed 58.3 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions and he has been sacked 31 times. Andre Brown has rushed for 343 yards after being injured earlier this season ,but he is still the Giants leading rusher. Victor Cruz has 66 receptions for 931 yards and four touchdowns and Hakeem Nicks has 44 receptions. The Giants offense is averaging 19.8 points and 320.8 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 24.8 points and their opponents are scoring 24.8 points and averaging 332.9 yards per game. The Giants let their season get away from them early, but they are still playing hard to the end.
The Chargers are 7-2 against the spread following a loss, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. New York is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games, 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 road games, and 2-5 against the spread following a win.
The Chargers are favored by a field goal and while I see them as the better team, the Giants are playing better football right now.
