The Seattle Seahawks look for the season sweep of the Niners on Sunday when Seattle heads to Candlestick.
The San Francisco 49ers have had somewhat of an up and down season so far, but the Niners are coming off back to back wins, the latest against a division rival in the St. Louis Rams. The Niners have one of the elite defenses in the NFL this season as this unit has been playing at a championship level all season long. The issue with the Niners has been the play of their offense, especially the passing game. San Francisco’s passing attack has been mediocre at times, and just plain awful at others. We have started to see that turn around as of late, as the Niners now have all their weapons back on offense with the return of Michael Crabtree this past weekend. Crabtree hauled in two Kaepernick passes on the day, the longest being a 60 yard strike down the sideline, which brought nearly every Niner fan to their feet. Crabtree’s presence on the field diverted attention from Boldin and Davis, each having big days against the St. Louis secondary. Kaepernick is starting to play better lately as well, and if the Niners continue to improve through the air, San Francisco will be a tough out come playoff time.

The Seattle Seahawks took care of business this past Monday night, taking apart the New Orleans Saints in Seattle. The Seahawks don’t always play as well on the road, but at home this team is absolutely dominant. That is a scary thought for the rest of the NFC as it looks like Seattle has a solid shot at home field advantage throughout the playoffs this season. The Seahawks have had some negative press lately as more members of this team have been caught using illegal substances. Not to make a big deal out of this situation here, but it seems Carroll kind of gets a pass because he is the “fun coach” and Seattle is a small market. If this were Dallas, or the Giants or another team in a huge market, the attention on this would likely be greater. Controversy or not, Seattle’s on the field play can’t be denied as the Seahawks are without a doubt playing better than anyone in the league right now.
Seattle is 9-4 against the spread this season, and considering the fact that the Seahawks have been favored every week (with this week being the only exception) that is incredibly impressive in the NFL. Settle is also a solid 4-2 against the spread this season when playing on the road.
The San Francisco 49ers are also cashing in for bettors this season, as the Niners are an impressive 9-3 against the spread. Also, when the Niners are listed as a favorite San Francisco is 8-2 against the spread this season and at home, the Niners are 4-2 ATS.
We have here a matchup between two of the more popular bet teams in the NFL right now and for good reason. Both Seattle and the Niners are covering machines this season, so it will be interesting to watch line movements as the week progresses.
I just can’t see taking the Niners here. This Seattle team has owned San Francisco the past two meetings, granted both of which were in Seattle. The Niners did get a win over the Seahawks the last time Seattle visited San Francisco, but that was early last season before Seattle fully implemented their offense under Russell Wilson.
Another angle in this one is if you look at the losses for the Niners, it’s against physical teams that limit the Niners ground game and force Kaepernick to beat them through the air. Kaepernick has shown he can beat teams throwing the ball, but Seattle possibly has the best secondary in the NFL right now and these defensive backs are more than capable of handling the Niners receivers one on one.
San Francisco should make this a game, but getting points with the better team looks like the side to be on here.
