The Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets face off on Sunday in Carolina for a week 15 NFL match up.
The Carolina Panthers are licking their wounds as their eight game winning streak came to a screeching halt and they were pounded by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night. The Panthers are still in the driver's seat for a spot in the playoffs as a Wildcard team but they also still have a chance to win the NFC South and have a rematch with the Saints still ahead. Cam Newton has completed 62 percent of his passes for 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and has also rushed for 495 yards and six touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams has rushed for 662 yards and two touchdowns and Mike Tolbert has seen an increased role carrying the ball and catching passes. Steve Smith has 60 receptions and four touchdowns and Greg Olsen has 58 catches and five touchdowns. Luke Keuchly has 113 tackles to lead the Panthers defense, Thomas Davis has 99 tackles, and Charles Johnson has 8.5 sacks. The Panthers are averaging 22.9 points and 320.9 yards per game, while defensively they allow14.5 points and 296.2 yards per game. The Panthers physical style makes them a team no one is going to want to see in January.

The New York Jets have been one of the tougher teams to figure out this season as they haven’t looked like the same team for two weeks in a row. The Jets alternated wins and losses through the first 10 games and while they still have playoff hopes, they can’t afford another loss. Geno Smith has completed 55.4 percent of his passes but he has just nine touchdowns to go with his 20 interceptions. Chris Ivory is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and Bilal Powell is averaging 3.8 yards per carry and he has 27 receptions. Jeremy Kerley has 32 receptions and that leads the Jets, while Kellen Winslow has 26 receptions and Stephen Hill and David Nelson have 24 catches each. David Harris leads the Jets defense in tackles with 106, DeMario Davis has 95, and Dawan Landry has 80 tackles. The Jets rank 31st in the NFL in points per game at 17.4 and 30th in yards per game at 307.5, while defensively they are allowing 25.9 points and 337.5 yards per game. The Jets simply seem to be missing a lot of pieces on offense.
Carolina is 5-0 against the spread in their last five home games, 5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games overall. New York is 7-3 against the spread following a game they scored 30 or more points, 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games, and 0-4 against the spread following a win. The home team has covered the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
This is a tough game to figure out as the Panthers are laying a lot of points and they aren’t really a blowout type of team. The Jets on the other hand are fully capable of beating themselves on some weeks, while others they pull out. I don’t love this one, but I see another awful day ahead for Geno Smith so it’s a lean to the Panthers.
