The St. Louis Rams and the New Orleans Saints face off on Sunday in St. Louis in NFL action.
The St. Louis Rams have had their share of ups and downs this season and they are coming off of a serious “down” as the Cardinals battered them last Sunday. The Rams have been slightly better at home, going 3-3 and winning the last time they played in St. Louis. Kellen Clemens took some big hits on Sunday, but for the season he has completed 52.9 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and five interceptions, while being sacked 18 times. Zac Stacy has taken over in the Rams backfield, rushing for 721 yards and five touchdowns. Jared Cook has 43 receptions and four touchdowns and Tavon Austin has 40 receptions and four touchdowns and has become a larger part of the offense. James Laurinaitis has 96 tackles to lead the Rams defense, Alec Ogletree has 94 tackles, and Robert Quinn has 13 sacks. The Rams offense is averaging 22.2 points and 318.5 yards per game while defensively they allow 23.7 points and 357.6 yards per game.

The New Orleans Saints are in first place in the NFC South and are still in the hunt for a first round bye in the playoffs. The Saints are coming off of a huge win over the Panthers on Sunday Night, which gave them the lead in the NFC South. Drew Brees is having a huge year, completing 68 percent of his passes with 33 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Pierre Thomas has rushed for 500 yards and has 64 receptions, while Darren Sproles has rushed for 195 yards and he has 58 receptions. Jimmy Graham has 74 receptions and 14 touchdowns and Marques Colston has 56 catches and four touchdowns. Curtis Lofton has racked up 108 tackles to lead the Saints, David Hawthorne has 74 tackles, and Kenny Vaccaro has 71 tackles. The Saints are averaging 26.4 points and 394.3 yards per game, while defensively they are allowing 18.7 points and their opponents gain 313.6 yards per game. The Saints are looking to get back to the Super Bowl after a rough season on and off the field a year ago.
St. Louis is 10-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-7 against the spread against the NFC, and 7-0-1 against the spread in their last eight home games against a team with a winning road record. New Orleans is 4-1 against the spread after allowing less than 15 points in their previous game, 0-5 against the spread following a win, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
While the Saints have the better record and are the better team, there are a lot of factors working against them here and the Rams seem to rise to the occasion at home against the good teams. Look for the Rams to play very physical here and to, at the very least, keep it close.
