The Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots face off on Sunday in Baltimore for a week 16 NFL battle with huge playoff implications.
The Baltimore Ravens have several scenarios that land them in the playoffs and several more that land them out but in the end they control their own destiny and in a worst case scenario if they win out they are no worse than a Wildcard team. The Ravens have four in a row and five of their last six and despite a lack of a solid running game they are heating up at the right time. Joe Flacco has completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 3,460 yards with 18 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Ray Rice has had a tough year gaining just 601 yards on the ground and catching 49 passes and Bernard Pierce also sees action in the backfield. Torrey Smith has 59 receptions and four touchdowns and Jacoby Jones has 35 catches after missing several games with an injury. Daryl Smith has 107 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 3 interceptions, James Ihedigbo has 90 tackles, and Terrell Suggs has 90 tackles and 9.0 sacks. The Ravens offense is averaging 21.1 points and 309.9 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 19.8 points and 334 yards per game. The Ravens failed to score a touchdown o Monday against the Lions but still won the game.

The New England Patriots control their own destiny and with a win they clinch the AFC East. While the Patriots need this game as they are also competing for a first round bye they know a win would also help their rivals the Miami Dolphins. Tom Brady has completed 60.9 percent of his passes with 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and he has been sacked 37 times. Steven Ridley has 645 yards but last week it was LeGarrette Blount getting the meaningful carries. Julian Edelman has 89 tackles and six touchdowns and Danny Amendola has 51 catches as the Pats try and fill the void left by Rob Gronkowski’s injury. Don’t’a Hightower has 85 tackles, Brandon Spikes has 78 tackles, and Chandler Jones has 11.5 sacks. The Patriots offense is averaging 26.4 points and 390.7 yards while defensively they are allowing 22.2 points and 372.7 yards per game. The Patriots are 3-4 on the road this season.
Baltimore is 19-6-2 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 3-8 against the spread playing on a Sunday following a Monday Night game, and 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five week 16 games. New England is 19-9 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games. New England is 1-3-1 against the spread in the last five meetings of these two.
These two teams are no strangers to playoff style football and this game is sort of like a playoff with all of the angles it covers. I see it being played close and points being tough to come by so my free pick is on the under. I also have a pick on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
