NFL Updates: Bears-Eagles, Week 16 Schedule and More
December 22, 2013
Today’s the day. After an unusually long layoff, the NFL will get back to business today with the Week 16 games set to kick off in just a matter of hours. Before we get settled in, let’s take a look at some of the key players out there and see what’s happening around the league. Here’s the latest.
What to Watch Tonight: One of the most crucial games on today’s slate is the “Sunday Night Football” matchup between the Bears and the Eagles. Both teams are locked firmly in dogfights for their respective divisions, and the winner will maintain the inside track heading into the final week of the season.
This should be a fairly high-scoring game, and we’re sure to see plenty of action on the ground. The key matchup will be the Eagles rushing attack--specifically LeSean McCoy--versus the Bears’ rush defense. Chicago has been downright awful against the run, so that will be a focal point for Philly. If McCoy gets fewer than 25-30 touches, we’d be somewhat surprised.
On the other side, we’re looking for Jay Cutler to continue to shake off the rust in his second performance back from injury. He’s got all sorts of weapons at his disposal (Jeffery, Marshall, Bennett, Forte, etc.) but will need to make the most of his offensive possessions by protecting the ball and coming away with points on each drive.
Coverage begins at 8:30 PM ET on NBC.

Falcons-49ers Injuries: Depending on how things shake out today, tomorrow’s game can vary greatly in importance for the 49ers. They’ll still be looking to make a statement with a big win, though, and you can bet Atlanta won’t be lying down on the big stage. Let’s take a second to look at a few of the injury issues on both sides as the game gets closer.
Falcons: The Falcons’ injury report is relatively slim, but there are some significant names here. Darius Johnson and Zeke Motta are out. Thomas DeCoud is probable. Tony Gonzalez (expected to play), Antone Smith and Sean Weatherspoon are all listed as questionable for tomorrow.
49ers: The Niners are dealing with significantly more injuries, but the majority are expected to play. The probables are: NaVorro Bowman, Tarell Brown, Michael Crabtree, Jonathan Goodwin, Frank Gore and Justin Smith. There are also four questionable players: Mike Iupati, Mario Manningham, Vance McDonald and Dan Skuta.
NFL Week 16 Schedule: Before we bid Week 16 a fond farewell, let's take one last look at the full slate of games today and tomorrow. There are lots of pretty good-looking matchups ahead, so it should be another good weekend of football as the playoff-bound teams jockey for position in the standings. Here’s a look at the full schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
