The Line: Atlanta Falcons +7 -- Over/Under: 45 See the Latest Odds

The Atlanta Falcons and the Carolina Panthers close out their 2013 NFL regular seasons on Sunday.

The Atlanta Falcons have had a several year run of being a playoff team but that all comes to a halt this season as the Falcons simply never got it going. Atlanta is just 4-11 on the year which should get them a nice draft choice that will get them some help in key areas. Matt Ryan has completed 67.3 percent of his passes with 24 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Steven Jackson has rushed for 502 yards but the Flacons rushing game hasn’t been good enough. Tony Gonzalez has 79 receptions and Harry Douglas has 78 catches but the Flacons receiving numbers have been hurt by the injury to Julio Jones and Roddy White being injured for several games. Paul Worrilow has 114 tackles, William Moore has 83 tackles, and Joplo Bartu has 79 tackles. The Falcons are averaging 22.2 points and 345.5 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 28.1 points and their opponents are gaining 385.8 yards per game. The Falcons are minus eight in turnovers this season which hasn’t helped them.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Panthers are the number two seed in the NFC for the playoffs and the NFC South Champions. The Panthers overcame a 0-2 record to start the season and have lost just two games the rest of the way. Cam Newton doesn’t have the big numbers but he has completed over 62 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and he has rushed for 513 yards and six touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams has rushed for 810 yards to lead the Panthers but he has just three rushing touchdowns. Greg Olsen has 67 receptions and Steve Smith has 64 catches to lead Carolina in receiving. Luke Kuechly has 146 tackles, Thomas Davis has 117 tackles, and Greg hardy has 11 sacks. Carolina is averaging 23 points and 319.1 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 14.7 points and their opponents are averaging 300.9 yards per game. Carolina plays a style that is going to make it tough on no matter who they face in the playoffs.

Atlanta is 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 home games, 2-5 against the spread against the NFC South, and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games. Carolina is 7-1 against the spread against the NFC, 7-2 against the spread following a win, and 19-7-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. The home team has covered the point spread in eight of the last 11 meetings of these two.

The total is set at 45.5 and I like this one to stay under that number as in a divisional game normally defenses take over and I see that happening here. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that Pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
