The Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos face off on Sunday in Oakland in week 17 NFL action.
The Oakland Raiders have had a miserable season and it had little to do with the team they had on the field, it had a lot more to do with a series of bad contracts they are still paying for. The Raiders will have a high draft choice and more cap to work with so they could be a team to look out for next season. The Raiders entered the preseason with four QB’s and with just two of those still on the roster none were able to step up as a viable starter in the NFL. Rashad Jennings is the leading ground gainers for Oakland as Darren McFadden was banged up again this season. Rod Streater has 5 receptions to lead the Raiders and Denarius Moore has 42 but it has been a tough year to be a receiver in Oakland. Nick Roach has 106 tackles and 5.5 sacks, Kevin Burnett has 101 tackles, Charles Woodson has 86 tackles. The Raiders offense is averaging 20.5 points and 339 yards while defensively they are allowing 27.9 points and 357.4 yards. The Raiders need help at QB and they should have a chance to get it.

The Denver Broncos have the best record in the AFC and they can wrap up home field advantage in the playoffs with a win or a New England loss. The Broncos have been lighting up the scoreboard all season as Peyton Manning solidifies his position in the history of the game. Manning has thrown for 5,211 yards with 51 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Kownshon Moreno has rushed for 1,015 yards and 10 touchdowns and Montee Ball has rushed for 487 yards. Demaryius Thomas has 86 receptions for 1,317 yards and 12 touchdowns, Eric Decker has 83 catches for 1,261 yards and 10 touchdowns, and Wes Welker is out until the playoffs. Danny Trevathan has 123 tackles, Wesley Woodyard has 82 tackles, and Shaun Phillips has 10.0 sacks. The Broncos offense is averaging 38.1 points and 457.3 yards while defensively they are allowing 25.7 points and 362.7 yards per game. The Broncos are going to try and put to rest the disappointment of last year’s early playoff loss.
Oakland is 7-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 home games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. Denver is 5-1-1 against the spread against the AFC West, 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games, and 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 road games. The road team is 8-2-1 against the spread in the last 11 meetings of these two.
If Denver had nothing to play for I could see them taking their feet off of the gas and putting the backups in but I don’t see it here as I look for them to roll into their bye and the playoffs.
