The Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams face off on Sunday in a week 17 NFL NFC West matchup.
The Seattle Seahawks still control their own destiny and with a win in this game will wrap up the NFC West and home field advantage in the playoffs. If the Seahawks lose and the 49ers win then Seattle will be on the road in week one of the playoffs as a Wildcard team. The Seahawks fell in Week 16 to the Cardinals in a bruiser ended their home winning streak and setting up this week’s scenario. Russell Wilson has established himself as a star in his second season not just for hitting the clutch throws but for also scrambling and picking up a lot of first downs in what seems like a lot of third down and long situations. Marshawn Lynch is simply a handful to bring down in running game. Golden Tate is having his best season showing why he was a first round pick a few years back and Doug Baldwin has had another solid year. For the Seahawks defense it is tough to say too many superlatives but Bobby Wagner leads Seattle with 108 tackles, Earl Thomas has 103 tackles, Richard Sherman has eight interceptions, and Cliff Avril has 8.0 sacks. The Seahawks are averaging 26 points and 343.7 yards per game while defensively they are allowing 14.8 points and 281.3 yards per game. THe Seahawks have led the NFC West since week one.

The St. Louis Rams have made big strides this season and while it will go down as another learning experience this team is close. The Rams lost starting QB Sam Bradford early in the season but have remained competitive and owning the Washington Redskins first round draft choice, which should be a top five pick, the Rams will get more immediate help. Kellen Clemens had a decent year filling in for Bradford, probably the best we have seen from him at any point in his career. Zac Stacy has emerged as a legitimate starting running back with 958 yards. Jared Cook leads the Rams in receiving but the emergence of Tavon Austin and Steadman Bailey bode well for the Rams furute as they are building a nice core of young receivers. Alec Ogletree has 109 tackles to lead the Rams, Robert Quinn has 18 sacks, and James Laurinaitis has 106 tackles. The Rams are a team to watch out for next year.
Seattle is 8-3 against the spread following a loss, 21-8 against the spread in their last nine games overall, and 36-17-1 against the spread in their last 54 home games. St. Louis is 11-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, and 1-4 against the spread against the NFC West. The home team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
This is a big number for this game but the Rams are just better at home right now and Seattle is tough as nails especially at home and look for them to win and cover in what should be another very physical game.
