The Chargers look to keep their improbable playoff run alive as they head to Mile High to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
The San Diego Chargers were the last team to qualify for the NFL postseason and did so by upending the shorthanded Kansas City Chiefs on an overtime field goal that shouldn’t have happened. The Chiefs had victory in their sights but a missed field goal from Ryan Succop gave possession back to the Chargers who ultimately drove the field and kicked a field goal of their own that sent the Steelers packing and Rivers and the Chargers into Cincinnati. However, the Chargers were called for an illegal formation that wasn’t called which would have moved the ball up five yards and gave Succop a chance to re-kick. Nonetheless, the Chargers answered the call last week in what was the most lopsided final of Wild Card weekend as they cemented their place in Denver with a 27-10 victory. The Chargers defense was spectacular as the pressure they generate disrupted Andy Dalton’s rhythm and they were able to take advantage with turnovers. The Chargers also played meticulously on offense as they dominated time of possession and they will look to do the same against the Broncos as to keep Manning and the most prolific offense in league history on the sidelines.

The Broncos earned the top spot in the AFC with an impressive, record setting 13-3 season that saw Peyton Manning set he single season record for passing yards and touchdowns and the offense become the game’s highest tallying unit of all time. While all the regular season success and team and individual accolades are nice it doesn’t mean much if they can’t win in the playoffs and with Manning’s proclamation that his career is coming to an end soon you can bet he will be extra motivated to grab another Super Bowl ring. Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Wes Welker, Julius Thomas and Knowshon Moreno are only a sample size of the Broncos’ offensive weapons and with the success they had at home this season you can be sure that the Broncos will put up points again this weekend despite the Chargers defense playing well. This is an interesting game as the Chargers like to slow the game down and keep their offense on the field for as long as possible while the Broncos hit you in the mouth in a span of two minutes and have double digits on the board. While this is a divisional game by title I think the emotion is lost a bit as both teams are more concerned with the end goal and to me I don’t think the Chargers are at the level of the Broncos right now. It might be close through three quarters but I think the Broncos open up late and win this one by at least 10 points.
