NFL Updates: Sanchez, Bradford, Complete Playoffs Schedule and More
January 23, 2014
The vast majority of the NFL is already in off-season mode, even though we still technically have one game left to play (or two, if you count the Pro Bowl). That said, there are still plenty of rumors and important happenings out there each day, so let’s take a look at a few of the key players and situations that are making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.
Mark Sanchez, QB, New York Jets: It may not be as difficult as you might think for Sanchez to butt-fumble his way onto another team’s roster this off-season. There’s at least one QB-needy team out there who would love to have him, according to a report that emerged yesterday.
Sanchez has been a disappointment during his tenure with the Jets: He posted a whopping 52 turnovers in 2011 and 2012, and is coming off surgery on his throwing shoulder. Still, after replacement Geno Smith’s sketchy play this past season, many are lamenting the situation and thinking the Jets could have been a playoff team with him under center.
If he’s released as expected this off-season, Sanchez could land in a few different spots--namely, the Raiders, Texans, Jaguars, Browns or Vikings. All are looking for a QB, and there’s not really much out there in the free agent market.

Danny Amendola, WR, New England Patriots: After a very promising opening week, Amendola was a disappointment for most of 2013. He missed four games due to injury, and only posted a pair of touchdowns the rest of the way.
In that Week 1 game, Amendola tore a tendon in his groin, and that’s now being blamed for his down-year. It remains to be seen whether or not the notoriously fickle Patriots will give him another chance in the slot next season.
Reggie Wayne, WR, Indianapolis Colts: It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Wayne, so let’s see how he’s doing. He’ll be taking another big step in his recovery from a torn right ACL on Saturday, when he’ll start running as part of his training.
That’s good news for Colts fans, and the even better news is that Wayne is reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehab. We’ll keep you posted as the off-season continues.
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams: Let’s finish up today by visiting Bradford, who is recovering from a torn ACL of his own. He’s reportedly on schedule, and his most recent development was getting clearance to run on a treadmill earlier this week. He should be ready for camp.
The Rams own the No. 2 pick in the draft, but reportedly won’t be in the market for a QB, since they’ve publicly put their support behind Bradford. Still, anything can happen between the draft and trade market, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
NFL Playoffs Schedule and Key Dates: There’s just one more (meaningful) game left in the NFL season, and after that it’s back to anticipation mode for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the schedule and scores from previous rounds, along with a few important upcoming dates we’ll be seeing soon.
