NFL News: Player News and Updates for 1/28/14
NFL Updates: Patriots, Important Upcoming Dates and More
January 28, 2014
One more day down until the Super Bowl this Sunday, and there are still plenty of storylines left to play out before (and after) the big game. That said, let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the noteworthy headlines out there right now. Here’s the latest.
Peyton Manning, QB, Denver Broncos: It looks like we’ll be seeing Manning out on the gridiron for at least one more year. Amid rumblings of a possible retirement following this Sunday’s Super Bowl against the Seahawks, Manning said yesterday that he intends to play football in 2014, putting to bed any concerns that this might be his last game.
That’s great news for not only Broncos fans, but for the entire league in general. Manning has been one of the best and brightest stars in the league for nearly his entire career, and assuming his neck looks good this off-season (he’ll supposedly be having an examination in March), we’ll get another dose of Peyton in 2014.

Aaron Dobson, WR, New England Patriots: Dobson may well have cemented himself as a key piece of the Patriots offense moving forward. The rookie put up 37 catches for 519 yards and four touchdowns, but lost time with a couple of foot injuries in 2013.
Those close to the team believe Dobson will be a significant contributor moving forward, and that he’s set to be a “difference maker” in the Pats offense. If his health holds up, expect a breakout year for him in the upcoming campaign.
Danny Amendola, WR, New England Patriots: While we’re in New England, let’s check in on Amendola. Over the weekend, it was reported that he wouldn’t be needing surgery for his nagging groin injury, but that may not be true.
Yesterday, some sources were reported as saying that surgery may be necessary for him to heal, and that he will likely end up going under the knife after all.
Amendola showed flashes of his potential this past year, but ended up missing four games due to injury. His groin ailment certainly slowed him down, and we won’t know exactly what he can do in the Pats offense until he gets 100 percent healthy.
Rashad Jennings, RB, Oakland Raiders: We’ll close it out today by checking in on Jennings, who may end up being the Raiders’ lead back in 2014. The team has expressed significant interest in re-signing him, and they reportedly believe that No. 1 RB Darren McFadden will end up sticking his toe into the free agent waters this off-season.
There are still a lot of different scenarios that could play out here, but we could be seeing a significant shakeup in the Raiders’ backfield. Jennings posted 733 yards and six scores this past season.
NFL Playoffs and Key Dates: There’s just one more game left in the NFL season, and after that it’s back to anticipation mode for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the remaining schedule, along with a few important upcoming dates we’ll be seeing soon.
