NFL Updates: Chris Johnson Latest, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 16, 2014
We’ve officially reached the middle of the week, and though we’re experiencing a bit of a lull when it comes to NFL news right now, the pace will be quickening once the remainder of the teams start their off-season activities. That said, there are still plenty of things to catch up on, so let’s take a look at the latest news.
Chris Johnson, RB, Free Agent: So, it’s been 11 days since the Titans cut ties with Johnson. We all figured he’d have a team by now, but that simply hasn’t happened. That said, he did check out the Jets yesterday in his first official visit since being released.
New York has always been the spot were everyone figured Johnson had the highest chance of landing, but we all thought he’d have been there within a few days of becoming a free agent. Still, at least it’s a development, so we’ll keep you posted if anything comes of it.

Sidney Rice, WR, Free Agent: Now that Rice has been medically cleared following his ACL surgery, it shouldn’t take long before we see him with a new team. Who will that new team be? Well, there have been a few names thrown out there as potential suitors, including the Seahawks, Saints, Jets, Giants and Panthers, so he’s probably got at least a couple of options.
That said, teams will be cautious here given Rice’s sketchy injury history. He’s had issues with his hip, knee and multiple concussions during his NFL career. We’re probably looking at a one-year deal here.
Dustin Keller, TE, Free Agent: Here’s an interesting little nugget that came out yesterday. The Patriots are reportedly expressing interest in free agent Keller, who missed out on all of 2013 after a knee injury suffered in the preseason. New England is looking for some help at tight end, and given their struggles with injuries and the like over the past couple of years, that’s a good idea.
Keller was most recently with the Dolphins, but also played with the Jets for five seasons to start his career. If he does indeed sign with New England, he’ll need only to play for the Bills at some point to complete an AFC East sweep.
Week 1 Preseason Schedule: Now that the preseason schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the preseason.
