NFL Updates: Chris Johnson and Sidney Rice Sign, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 17, 2014
Now that we’ve crested the proverbial hill of this week, we can start looking forward to the weekend. Along with that will come plenty of extra NFL information as the off-season continues. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and check out what’s happening right now. Here’s the latest.
Johnny Football in Cleveland?: With just three weeks left until the 2014 NFL Draft, you’ll be hearing a lot about Johnny Manziel in the coming days. The latest on him is that the Browns will be hosting a private workout for him over the weekend in College Station. The workout will precede an official visit to Cleveland in the days after that.
The Browns hold the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft, which may or may not be high enough to nab Manziel. At this point, it’s truly anyone’s guess where he--or any of the other top QBs, for that matter--will go. The Texans, Jaguars and Vikings all have quarterback needs in the top eight picks.

Chris Johnson, RB, New York Jets: Like we do (seemingly) every day, let’s check in on Johnson. This very well may be the last time we talk about him for a while, however, as he now has a home. The free agent RB and former Titan visited with the Jets on Tuesday, but left the facility without a new contract. Though the two sides left the table with “good feelings,” Johnson said he was taking his time in making a decision.
That all changed yesterday, when it was announced that he’d signed a two-year contract with the Jets. Johnson will work in tandem with Chris Ivory and form a very potent one-two punch in the backfield. His deal is worth a reported $8 million with $1 million in incentives.
Sidney Rice, WR, Seattle Seahawks: Another big deal that happened yesterday concerned Rice. The free agent WR opted to go back to his former team the Seahawks, re-signing for a one-year deal in Seattle.
The exact financial terms of the contract aren’t yet known, but suffice to say that he’ll be taking a pay cut from what he was originally going to get in 2014 ($.8.5 million). Rice has been out since October after suffering an ACL tear but doctors have cleared him.
