NFL Updates: Draft, Fantasy, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 27, 2014
Another week is in the books throughout this NFL off-season, which brings us that much closer to the rapidly-approaching draft and the subsequent 2014 season. There’s quite a bit of news out there this morning concerning players and situations across the league, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look at the headlines. Here’s the latest.
LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: One of the hot topics of conversation in Philly right now surrounds the Eagles’ backfield. Specifically, now that Darren Sproles is in town, how’s that going to affect incumbent No. 1 RB LeSean McCoy?
Well, for what it’s worth, McCoy himself seems optimistic. He was quoted yesterday as saying that his 366 touches last season was “a lot” and that he and Sproles will worth together toward the goal of both players being fresh for the fourth quarter during this upcoming season.
It makes sense to us. McCoy is already lethal in the fourth quarter as it is; Keeping his legs ready will only serve to improve that. The touches will go down, but the production may not.

Extended Draft?: Yesterday, we talked about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s plans to expand the playoffs, and that might not be the only thing that he’s got in mind. Late last week, he suggested the league might be tinkering with the NFL Draft schedule in the near future, specifically by increasing it to a four-day event instead of three.
If the draft were to expand, it would still remain seven rounds. The desire here is to “create even more excitement” around the process, which we suppose is code for getting more advertising dollars.
The league is also reportedly looking at tinkering with the date and location of the draft. We doubt too many fans like the ceremony pushed back into May (we sure don’t like it), but at least a few coaches seem to appreciate the extra time.
Fantasy Corner: For the past week or so, we’ve been breaking down each position in the 2014 fantasy football draft by looking at the top players at each spot. Today it’s time for tight ends, which is always a notoriously difficult hole to fill in the roster.
The usual suspects are sitting atop the rankings, but it’s when you get down a little further that you’ll be taking more risk when you select a TE. That said, here’s a look at our current top 10 at that position.
1. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans Saints
2. Julius Thomas, Denver Broncos
3. Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots
4. Dennis Pitta, Baltimore Ravens
5. Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers
6. Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys
7. Jordan Reed, Washington Redskins
8. Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings
9. Greg Olsen, Carolina Panthers
10. Jordan Cameron, Cleveland Browns
