NFL Updates: Broncos-Colts in Week 1, Off-Season Schedule and More
April 28, 2014
It’s the start of a new workweek, and we’re crawling closer and closer to the impending NFL Draft. There are all sorts of storylines out there right now, so with that in mind let’s check out some of the notable players and news items from around the league. Here’s the latest.
Toby Gerhart, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars: It’ll be interesting to see what former Vikings running back Toby Gerhart is able to do with the Jaguars this season. The team has some big plans for him, and the man himself believes he can shoulder the load. He was recently quoted as saying that he believes he’s got the skills to be a starter in the NFL, but wasn’t able to garner as much playing time as he would have liked since he was behind Adrian Peterson.
Gerhart is a career 4.7 YPC guy, which is a number the Jaguars are hoping he can sustain this season and beyond. The thing is, he’s never had more than 109 carries in a year yet, so we’ll see what happens when he does.

Bills Trade-Up Coming?: Here’s a potential scenario to keep an eye on during next month’s NFL Draft. Late last week, word broke that the Bills might be candidates to make a trade up for the right player. Who, exactly, is that “right player”? Well, the team has five or six “elite” prospects in mind that would warrant a move given the right circumstances.
The Bills have the No. 9 pick in this year’s draft. They have a lot of young talent on the defensive side of the ball, so a complementary offensive piece seems likely. Maybe a big-time WR is in the cards? Mike Evans from Texas A&M has been mentioned as a possible target.
Colts-Broncos Showdown: After the schedules were released, a lot of eyes immediately went to the first week of the season. Sitting in that spot, right in primetime on the inaugural edition of “Sunday Night Football,” are Denver and Indianapolis, marking Peyton Manning’s second game against his former team.
Denver has a pretty tough road right out of the gate. They’ll play the Colts, Chiefs and Seahawks in the first three weeks, so we’ll get to see how they bounce back from their embarrassing Super Bowl blowout right away.
