NFL Updates: Keller, Sherman, Off-Season Schedule and More
May 1, 2014
Another day down, and we’re cruising toward the weekend. We’ve now got just seven days left until the 2014 NFL Draft, so you can expect the storylines and speculation to grow exponentially from here. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the news-making names out there.
Dustin Keller, TE, Free Agent: We’ve touched on Keller a few times this off-season, and this morning we’ve got some fresh news on him. He visited with the New England Patriots yesterday, confirming a long-standing rumor of their interest. His physical reportedly went very well.
Keller didn’t play in 2013 after a preseason with the Dolphins; He injured his knee and had to go under the knife to repair a torn ACL/MCL/PCL and dislocated kneecap. Ouch.
If he does indeed catch on with the Patriots, he’ll have played for three of the four AFC East teams. Maybe he’ll move on to Buffalo after this.

Tony Romo, QB, Dallas Cowboys: It seems like we’re already overanalyzing Romo this off-season, and it surely won’t be the last time. Here’s some good news, though: Cowboys TE Jason Witten made some comments yesterday that should settle the nerves of fans. He reported Romo’s passes to have “the same zip, same as always” during some recent pass-catching sessions with the QB.
Romo is coming of December surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back, and there have been some questions about his health thrown around this off-season. We won’t be able to judge for certain until training camp begins, though.
Richard Sherman, CB, Seattle Seahawks: Their Super Bowl trophy has been placed in a case somewhere, and now it’s check-writing season for the Seahawks brass. Earl Thomas is now the league’s highest-paid safety, and the general consensus seems to be that the team will shore up their secondary by giving all-star corner Richard Sherman his own huge payday.
The two sides have been talking and the plan reportedly is to have a deal in place by the draft next Thursday. How much will Sherman cost the team? Well, the benchmark seems to be Darrelle Revis’ $12 million annual salary, and we’d imagine Sherman will eclipse that. Championships sure are expensive.
Week 1 Schedule: Now that the schedules have been released, we can start looking forward to the on-field action as we warm up for the 2014 campaign. Here’s a look at the first week of the season, which begins September 4.
