NFL Updates: Injury Updates From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
June 1, 2014
The weekend is almost over (already?) but there’s still plenty of relaxing left to do. During this downtime, let’s take our daily look ahead to the upcoming NFL season and see what type of headlines are coming out across the league right now. Here’s a snapshot from some of the latest developments.
Bills Headlines: We saw some significant developments during the Bills’ OTA sessions this past week, and they’ll have a direct impact on the team’s season. First we’ll check up with RB C.J. Spiller. Late last week, he declared his injury issues over, saying that he currently feels great. He was plagued by ankle issues this past season, but passed the eye test when running, according to reports.
Then there’s the Scott Chandler issue. He’s coming off a pretty good 2013--though it wasn’t the huge breakout the team was hoping for he still bagged 53 catches and 655 yards. The bad news that he hasn’t participated in OTA activities as he’s still recovering from knee surgery this off-season. When he comes back, he’ll have a battle on his hands in securing his spot away from Tony Moeaki.

Injury Nuggets: Let’s cruise around the league and check out a few injury situations that have been in the headlines recently.
In New York, we’re still trying to figure out what will become of David Wilson, but so far the early returns have been positive. He was reportedly running well during OTA drills this past week and was cutting at a high level. Whether or not he’ll be able to return to the field following last year’s neck injury remains to be seen, however.
In New England, Rob Gronkowski is doing well after his ACL/MCL surgery. Although there’s no guarantee here, the team is holding onto optimism that he’ll be ready to go for Week 1.
Trent Richardson was wearing a red no-contact jersey at last week’s OTAs, which was a precaution thanks to his off-season shoulder surgery. He’s had some issues with his weight recently, reportedly ballooning up to 240 pounds. Richardson is now back down to 225 now, however, and should enter the season healthy.
Lastly, let’s look at Lions RB Joique Bell’s injury timeline. He had to sit out of OTAs, and will likely have to do the same at the mandatory minicamp this month. The good news is that there’s a good chance he’ll be able to return for training camp in July. Bell has fought off knee issues this off-season.
